Rivers, estuaries, wet grasslands, mangroves, coral reefs, coastal waters around the world are today celebrating.

These territories have a great importance since they are ecosystems that harbor high biodiversity. They are also natural regulators of the climate and the water cycle and help control floods and droughts. They generate hydrological resources that supply water to populations in their area of influence, and are also areas of work activity or recreation for humans such as fishing and tourism.

Every February 2 the World Wetlands Day takes place with the aim to promote "the conservation and wise use of all wetlands and sustainable development throughout the world."

The army of pollinators

Believe it or not, insects are crucial for many ecosystems. Beside the main role as pollinators, they are natural decomposers of organic matter, helping to create a top soil, the nutrient-rich layer of soil that helps plants grow.

In the middle of a Forest that border one of the hundreds Rivers of the Osa Peninsula, in the Ancient Time, an healthy Pre-Columbine Tribe was living and working here, dedicating a lot of resources to the Gold Extraction from the beds and banks of the creeks and rivers. The ridges of the hills, with almost vertical sides, were their burial sites, where a lot of Archeological Pieces, included Gold Jewels and Figures of the Wildlife Spirits, had been found in the past years. From the sides of these hills several springs of the purest water are flowing for to form a couple of Creeks which waters had carved, in the millennia, the rocky banks and created narrow canals that snake in the middle of the huge trees, creating a spectacular environment filled by the songs of Millions of Cicads.
