Growth does not show up overnight. It is not a destination you reach after a certain amount of time traveling. And it does not announce itself to you like someone ringing the doorbell.
It shows up in the subtlest of moments. In the patience you give to others (and yourself) in a moment of frustration, the compassion you show when someone lashes out, the forgiveness you bestow on yourself when you make a mistake. It announces itself in the acceptance of stillness at the end of a long day without any desire to fill the space.
When I sit, the benefits don’t instantly show up in my life that day. Oftentimes, when I sit, I stir stuff up. I feel frustrated, angry, anxious. I feel human. But that’s also the point. Learning to sit with what is, whenever it arises.
