The start of the FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup in Argentina will soon be upon us.
The competition will take place from 17-23 October 2026 at the Parque Olimpico de la Juventud in Buenos Aires with the Opening Ceremony and opening match with the hosts Argentina and Denmark taking place on October 17th.

On behalf of the Americas Powerchair Football Confederation (APFC), we are pleased to announce that Dominic Russo has been selected and officially approved by the FIPFA Trustees as our new APFC President.
Dominic brings a strong blend of corporate leadership experience and a deep, foundational history in our sport. Professionally, he has extensive executive experience as a business partner and hospitality General Manager. Within power soccer, Dominic helped establish the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) in 2006, serving as its President for over twelve years and helping to successfully guide the sport all the way to hosting a World Cup in 2017. His vast background as a coach, leader, and builder makes him uniquely qualified to drive the Americas Zone forward.
We want to sincerely thank the other candidates who applied for this role. The talent and passion within our community is outstanding, and while only one President could be selected, we remain highly interested in their leadership. Applications for other vital executive roles, including Vice President, will be coming out very soon, and we strongly encourage them to apply.

American Powerchair Football Association Appoints Leo Frega as Director of Officials, APFC South America
The American Powerchair Football Association (APFC) is proud to announce the appointment of Leo Frega as Director of Officials for APFC South America, further strengthening the organization’s commitment to excellence in officiating across the region.
In his new role, Frega will oversee referee development and officiating standards in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, supporting the continued growth and professionalism of powerchair football throughout South America.
Frega brings an exceptional level of experience and leadership to the position. He has officiated at some of the most prestigious international tournaments in the Americas, including the APFC Champions Cup, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Copa América, and Copa del Río de la Plata. On the global stage, he has served as a referee at the Powerchair Football World Cup in Australia, the Club World Cup in Paris, and is currently selected as a referee for the 2026 World Cup in Argentina.
In addition to his powerchair football credentials, Frega has an extensive background in traditional football, with 26 years as a professional referee with the Argentine Football Association (AFA). His experience in powerchair football includes 11 years as a national referee in Argentina, 10 years as a FIPFA international referee, and 7 years serving as the Director of Powerchair Referees in Argentina, a role he continues to hold.
“Leo Frega’s experience at both the national and international levels makes him an outstanding addition to our leadership team,” said Doug Wolff, Director of Sport, APFC. “His dedication to the sport and deep understanding of officiating will play a vital role in advancing referee standards and supporting the continued growth of powerchair football across South America.”
The APFC looks forward to the impact of Frega’s leadership as the organization continues to expand opportunities and elevate the game throughout the Americas.
