♟🤩 The team lists for the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad have been published, revealing a field filled with World Champions, established national-team powers, and some of the brightest young players in chess. 400 teams have been confirmed over the two competitions: 208 in the Open and 192 in the Women’s event. That is twenty more than the record field of 380 at Budapest 2024!

The opening ceremony will take place in Samarkand on September 15, followed by 11 classical rounds of competition from September 16 to 27. Based on the submitted line-ups, the United States head the Open starting list, followed by defending champions India, hosts Uzbekistan, China and Germany. In the Women’s competition, India is the top seed team ahead of Georgia, China, Kazakhstan and the United States.

Its 2:18 AM in India right now, and we have huge news coming in from the USA. R. Praggnanandhaa is the Champion of Grand Chess Tour St. Louis Rapid and Blitz with a round to spare!

Praggnanandhaa drew against Javokhir Sindarov in the penultimate round to seal the tournament win with a score of 23/35 points - 1.5 points ahead of the field!

Big congratulations to Praggnanandhaa and his team on this amazing victory - this is the first Rapid and Blitz tournament which Pragg has won!

¿Por qué Uzbekistán se ha convertido en una potencia del ajedrez?

En los últimos años, Uzbekistán ha demostrado que el éxito en el ajedrez no es producto de la casualidad, sino de una estrategia nacional cuidadosamente planificada. Mientras muchos países consideran el ajedrez un simple pasatiempo, el gobierno uzbeko lo ha convertido en una prioridad para el desarrollo educativo y deportivo.

En 2021, el presidente de Uzbekistán aprobó un amplio programa para popularizar el ajedrez en todo el país. Entre sus principales medidas se incluyeron la implementación del proyecto "Ajedrez en las Escuelas", la enseñanza del juego en miles de instituciones educativas, la entrega de tableros, piezas, relojes y material didáctico, además de la formación de entrenadores especializados con financiación pública.

Pero el proyecto no terminó ahí. El gobierno también fortaleció la detección de jóvenes talentos, impulsó escuelas de alto rendimiento y mejoró las condiciones para que los mejores jugadores pudieran competir internacionalmente. Además, Uzbekistán decidió organizar grandes eventos internacionales, incluida la preparación para albergar la Olimpiada Mundial de Ajedrez de 2026 en Samarcanda, como parte de una estrategia para convertir el ajedrez en un movimiento nacional.

Los resultados ya son evidentes. En pocos años, Uzbekistán ha producido una extraordinaria generación de jóvenes grandes maestros, entre ellos Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Javokhir Sindarov y los hermanos Nodirbek, quienes han llevado al país a competir de igual a igual contra las mayores potencias del mundo.
