The intention to reduce costs does not always lead to lower overall expenses.
❌ Some advocate using mooring tails with lower strength than the main lines, allowing them to wear out and be replaced first in an effort to reduce management costs.
However, mooring tails are often subjected to the most concentrated wear within the mooring system.
Insufficient strength can not only accelerate the tail's own degradation but also increase fatigue on the main line, ultimately shortening the service life of the entire mooring system.
📌 MEG4 recommends that the MBL of a mooring tail should typically be approximately 25%–30% higher than that of the corresponding main line.
