As the original port channel silted up, Canton Customs relocated its registration checkpoint here, where merchant ships from around the world cleared customs and replenished supplies—making it a thriving international hub on the Maritime Silk Road.

Parsee Building and Parsee Cemetery on Huangpu’s Changzhou Island preserve the legacy of Zoroastrian merchants who traded along the Maritime Silk Road during Canton’s single-port trade era. The building is the only surviving Zoroastrian activity site in South China, while the cemetery is China's only burial ground dedicated to the Parsee community—a lasting testament to historic Sino-Indian maritime trade.

The Whampoa Military Academy-themed cultural block was selected as a standout 14th Five-Year Plan case with hit immersive drama Huangpu!
