On the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, the Grand Canal in Tongzhou earns its full light. The Beijing Performing Arts Centre, the Beijing Library, and the Grand Canal Museum line the waterfront — culture and open water, all in one stretch.

A singing event was recently held at the District Museum, where 18 teams from various towns and subdistricts took the stage together, showcasing grassroots cultural vitality through music.
On site, multiple teams performed classic songs such as *“Today Is Your Birthday”* and *“The Motherland Will Not Forget”*. Through a combination of choral singing, lead vocals, and creative stage arrangements, the performances presented a rich and diverse range of artistic expression.
The event concluded with a mass chorus, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere. It fully demonstrated the positive spirit and cultural cohesion of the local community.

No Dragon Boat Festival is complete without zongzi. These pyramid-shaped rice dumplings, wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, are one of the festival's most iconic foods. In Beijing, families often enjoy both sweet and savory varieties, from red bean and jujube fillings to meat-filled favorites.
More than a holiday treat, zongzi carry centuries of tradition and are shared among family and friends as a symbol of reunion and good wishes.

At the event, smoke and steam rose into the air as crowds streamed through the venue. The festive spirit of the blended with the lively atmosphere of the night market, creating an immediate sense of excitement.

At the heart of the market stood an enormous wok measuring three meters in diameter, an impressive centerpiece with clouds of steam billowing from within. The bold, spicy aroma of crayfish filled the air. Chinese culinary master Jiang Jinhua was on site to oversee the cooking, preparing batch after batch of freshly cooked Qianjiang crayfish. Bright red and glossy, the crayfish were plump and flavorful, with firm, tender, and springy meat.

During the event, a total of 400,000 crayfish were distributed free of charge to residents and visitors, allowing everyone on site to fully enjoy their very own “crayfish feast.”
