Awesome Day for Our Aitutaki Swimmers

Today, our School Sport Australia swimmers from 2024, had the privilege of training with open water legend Dan Abel, from Fit & Abel New Zealand, who has completed the English Channel, Cook Strait, and a solo swim around Rarotonga’s outer reef!

Growing up in Aitutaki, our tamariki already respect and connect with the ocean and show environmental awareness 💙🌴

Building on fitness, skills and technique, Dan shared his 5 step recipe for swimming success:
1️⃣ Breathing
2️⃣ Body position
3️⃣ Legs
4️⃣ Arms + breathing
5️⃣ Everything else

Our swimmers also graduated as Swim Assistants today!

Meitaki Atupaka to Turama Pacific Aitutaki, Stephen and Poppy Doherty, for making this possible, and to Dan Abel, from Fit and Abel NZ, for sharing his knowledge and time. 💙🌊

🫶 supporting Aitutaki Aquatics Club

This year, Prouse Swim School are raising funds for the
"GROW Aitutaki SWIM SAFE PROJECT".

Aitutaki is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon and open ocean, making water a part of everyday life. While the sea brings food, fun, and jobs, it also carries serious risks, especially for children who are not confident swimmers. The Swim Safe Project, run by GROW Aitutaki in collaboration with the Aitutaki Aquatics Club, aims to ensure every child in our community has the skills and knowledge to be safe in and around the water.
Our goal is to provide free, structured swimming and water safety lessons for children and youth. These lessons will teach basic swimming strokes, safe entry and exit from the water, floating, treading water, rescue awareness, and how to respond in emergencies. By building these skills early, we can prevent accidents, save lives, and give tamariki the confidence to enjoy and respect our marine environment.

YOUR DONATION WILL SUPPORT
Hiring or training qualified swim instructors and swim assistants.
Purchasing swimming aids such as kick boards, flotation devices, and safety gear
Maintaining and improving access to safe teaching locations in the lagoon.
Covering administration, lesson materials, and community awareness campaigns.
Supporting volunteer coordination and logistics for lessons.

We welcome families to give a donation during Safety Week to support this wonderful initiative. Any small amount is appreciated.

Huge meitaki to everyone who’s donated to our swim club, especially Chris, Jane, and Anna for your recent contributions! 🏊‍♀️💙 We’re now officially overflowing with goggles 😆💦

We’d love some non goggle swim gear next — think stopwatches, fins, caps or togs — or even a sponsor for our next Learn to Swim program to help our community get water confident and swimming! 🌊
