We’re excited to share some awesome news — our Avatiu-Nikao Junior Development (ANJD) U14’s Rugby League 9’s team has been selected to travel to Aitutaki to compete in the TJ Dargan 9’s Tournament on November 20th, 2025! 🏝️🏉

This is an incredible opportunity for our young players to represent our club, families, and community, showcasing their talent, teamwork, and love for the game. It’s more than just a tournament; it’s a chance for these boys to gain experience, build confidence, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
As you can imagine, travelling from Rarotonga to Aitutaki comes with expenses — flights, accommodation, transport, meals, and team gear. That’s why we’re reaching out to our wider ANJD family and friends for support. Every little bit helps us get our boys there and ensures they can focus on what they love most — playing footy!

We invite you to join us in a heartfelt tribute as we celebrate the life of the Late Joseph Haupini Snr and the Haupini Family. A special Church Service will be held on Saturday, 19th July 2025, at 8am at the Avarua Catholic Church.

Known affectionately by many of his children at the Avatiu Sports Club as Papa Joe, he dedicated many years of service to our community. A former athlete and coach, Papa Joe made significant contributions in Rugby, Athletics, Tennis, and Boxing. He served as the Vice President and President of ASAI from 2008 until his departure for medical care in 2014.

In 2008, alongside the late former President Peto Nicholas, Vice President Papa Joe and their dedicated team spearheaded the successful renovation of the Avatiu Club House and the construction of the new Netball Court by the Sports Field, leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Papa Joe was a man of few words, yet his encouragement resonated deeply with everyone around him. As we gather to reminisce, we remember him fondly, sharing countless stories that will forever be cherished in our hearts.

We salute you, Papa Joe, and bid you farewell. Your presence is dearly missed, and may you rest in loving peace with our Heavenly Father.

Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to Aunty Marie Haupini, the patroness of the Avatiu Sports Association, and the entire Haupini Family.
