This news article was published in the recent newsletter of the Carlton Cornwall Bowling Club in Auckland and I thought of extracting the portion related to RBC visit to them last month.
RAROTONGA BOWLING CLUB VISIT
Carlton Cornwall Bowls proudly hosted the Rarotonga Bowling Club on 1–2 April for the Vince Pittman Memorial Challenge, a tournament built on friendship, culture, and a chance meeting that became something special.
The event honours Vince Pittman, a proud Cook Islander and Carlton Cornwall member. Its origins trace back to 2023, when Carlton Cornwall’s John Crummey unexpectedly found himself at the Rarotonga Bowling Club seeking help after an accident. A rain shower, a warm welcome, and a few shared refreshments later, the idea for this trans-Tasman challenge was born.
This year, a 30-strong Rarotonga contingent travelled to Auckland for two days of spirited competition featuring triples and 2x4x2 pairs, played in the tournament’s trademark style: fun in a competitive environment.
Following the final bowl, players enjoyed a roast dinner and prizegiving, where Carlton Cornwall there was praise to the visitors, especially the strong junior presence, with several players under 15 and many travelling overseas for the first time.
The hosts retained bragging rights this time, but the next chapter is already booked with the return challenge set for 24–29 August 2027 in Rarotonga.
Lovely email from Nooroa Teipo – the President of Rarotonga Bowling Club
Kia Orana Gerard and Mary,
On behalf of our entire team, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the warm hospitality you extended to us over the three days we were at your club Carlton-Cornwall.
We are truly thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a well-organised, enjoyable and fun series of games. The time, effort, and care you put into hosting us did not go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate the welcoming and friendly environment you created throughout our time there.
We are especially grateful for the lunches and meals that were thoughtfully prepared and shared with us, and for the wonderful dinner on our final night. It was a meaningful way to conclude our visit and allowed us to further strengthen the spirit of fellowship and connection between our Bowling Clubs.
Please accept and pass on to your members our heartfelt thanks for your generosity, kindness, and commitment to making our visit both memorable and enjoyable. We feel very privileged again to have been hosted by you and your members, and we look forward to the opportunity to meet again when it will be our host here in Rarotonga August 2027.
With sincere appreciation,
Nooroa and all our team from RBC

Kia Orana,
Considering that there is a bye in Section 3 of the Open Triples, this is an opportunity for one team to omit this bye. So grab a mate, a friend or foe to team up for this team. This is required by tomorrow afternoon at the latest as the game needs to played by this Thursday.
Please get in touch with the Secretary to register. Only 1 team is needed.
