A fantastic result for Switzerland at the European Paragliding Championships in North Macedonia: Roger Aeschbacher from Riggisberg finishes 2nd overall and takes home the silver medal! 🥈🔥

After nine days of racing against Europe’s best pilots, Roger secures his place on the podium following a championship marked by strong individual performances, task victories and excellent Swiss teamwork.

The European title goes to Slovenia’s Tilen Ceglar.

In the women’s competition, Sarah Zimmermann from Steffisburg finishes 6th overall, completing a strong European Championship that included several impressive performances at the front of the field. 🇨🇭

🇨🇭 Noé Court wins Task 8 at the European Championships! 🥇🔥

A very special day for Switzerland in North Macedonia: Noé Court takes his first-ever European Championship task victory!

Today’s race covered just over 75 km, zig-zagging across the flatlands – a short, fast task in terrain that traditionally isn’t exactly the Swiss team’s favourite playground.

Soon after the start, Noé Court, Roger Aeschbacher and Tim Rochas were established in the leading group, while Stephan Morgenthaler and Sarah Zimmermann followed further behind.

Approaching the second-last turnpoint, the strong Spanish team launched an attack. Roger followed their push, but the move took him away from the optimal line while the rest of the leading group continued to find lift.

Noé played it differently.

He chose exactly the right moment to attack, surprised much of the field and – after already collecting valuable leading points – executed a perfect final glide.

The result: victory! 🥇🇨🇭

Noé’s first task win at a European Championship and another victory for the Swiss team in an incredibly strong international field.

Roger’s difficult finish becomes his first discard of the championship, meaning his 2nd place overall remains safe for now.

All Swiss pilots except Jérôme Kägi crossed the goal line. Stephan even climbed out again after goal and flew all the way back to Krushevo – probably the perfect medicine after a difficult race. 😄🪂

🇨🇭 Double second place for Switzerland in Task 7! 🥈🥈

Another excellent day for the Swiss team at the European Paragliding Championships in North Macedonia: Roger Aeschbacher finishes 2nd overall, while Sarah Zimmermann takes 2nd place in the women’s ranking!

Roger and Stephan Morgenthaler once again showed how powerful their teamwork can be. Flying together at the front, they found excellent lines and put themselves in a position for a brilliant result.

For Stephan, however, one of those lines came with a painful twist: while flying at full speed, he hit lift of around 7 m/s and was pushed above the 3350 m airspace limit. What could have been another top result was lost to the resulting penalty.

Sarah, meanwhile, produced an impressive comeback after having to throw her reserve in yesterday’s task. With an aggressive line choice, she managed to catch the leaders and stayed with them all the way to goal – earning a superb 2nd place among the women. 🔥🇨🇭

Noé Court and Tim Rochas had less luck with their lines today, while Jérôme Kägi started the race around one kilometre vertically below the highest pilots. He launched a huge comeback but was eventually stopped by a landing short of goal.

With two days remaining, Roger holds 2nd place in the overall European Championship ranking. 🇨🇭🥈

There is still work to do in the team and women’s rankings – but the possibility of one of Switzerland’s best European Championships in years is very much alive.

🇨🇭 A tough day for the Swiss team at the European Championships

Task 4 in North Macedonia promised a fast race – and that is exactly what the pilots got. The 68.5 km course was won by Slovenia’s Tilen Ceglar in just 1:32:21. 🔥

With few tactical options available, a good position at the start was crucial. Five of the six Swiss pilots managed to join the main gaggle, while Stephan Morgenthaler started around 300 metres lower.

Sarah Zimmermann faced an additional challenge even before the race began: after noticing a technical problem shortly after take-off, she had to land and launch again. Despite being the very last pilot to take off, she fought her way back and was well positioned when the race started.

At this pace, even a small mistake or one extra turn in a thermal was enough to lose contact with the group. Roger Aeschbacher and Noé Court managed to stay with the leading gaggle, while the rest of the Swiss team fought further behind.

Roger eventually finished 8th, with Noé 41st. Stephan came in 65th, followed by Tim 76th, Sarah 77th overall and Jérôme 82nd. Sarah's result also gave her 4th place in the women's ranking. 🇨🇭

All six Swiss pilots reached goal, but with only the two best results of Roger, Stephan, Tim and Sarah counting towards the nations ranking, the day cost Switzerland valuable ground.

Roger also dropped from 2nd to 5th overall in the individual championship.

Five tasks remain. There is still time to fight back. 💪🇨🇭

🇨🇭 Strong second place for Sarah Zimmermann in Task 2! 🥈

Another strong Swiss performance at the European Paragliding Championships in North Macedonia: Sarah Zimmermann finishes 2nd in the women’s ranking after an exciting 97 km race.

With strong northerly winds forecast at altitude, the task was set towards the south. Before the start, the Swiss team had already identified a possible northern line along the ridge. It meant flying extra distance, but could offer better conditions than the direct route across the flats.

Stephan Morgenthaler was tasked with checking the northern option, with Sarah joining him. When the start opened, both found themselves well below the leading gaggle – but their route began to pay off.

Sarah and Stephan steadily fought their way back into the race. After the third turnpoint, Sarah had caught the leaders and was flying at the front together with Roger Aeschbacher. An impressive comeback! 🔥

The final section across the flats, two valleys and a high plateau proved decisive. Roger was among the first to commit to final glide, but had to ease off as his altitude margin became tight. Sarah, Tim Rochas and Jérôme Kägi arrived with enough height to make a strong push towards goal.

Sarah crossed the line 45th overall and 2nd woman, while Roger finished 20th and Tim 30th. Jérôme and Stephan also reached goal – meaning all Swiss pilots completed the task. 🇨🇭🪂 �

Today’s 80 km race took the pilots back and forth through the main Krushevo valley. With limited tactical options, the Swiss team relied on a strong team strategy – staying together and keeping as many pilots as possible at the front of the field.

Stephan Morgenthaler repeatedly took the lead and pushed from the front, while the team continuously exchanged information to keep the Swiss pilots in a strong position.

In the final part of the race, Roger Aeschbacher converted that teamwork into the first task victory of the championships. 🔥🇨🇭

Die Schweiz geht mit einem starken Team ins Rennen: Roger Aeschbacher aus Riggisberg gehört nach seinen starken internationalen Leistungen zu den Mitfavoriten. Auch der sechsfache Schweizermeister und Weltcupsieger Stephan Morgenthaler hat beste Chancen, ganz vorne mitzufliegen.

Bei den Frauen vertritt die zweifache Schweizermeisterin Sarah Zimmermann die Schweiz und kämpft ebenfalls um Edelmetall. 🇨🇭💪

🇨🇭 Swiss team shines at the Paragliding World Cup in Gemona! 🪂

The Paragliding World Cup in Gemona, Italy ended with an excellent result for the Swiss team.

🥉 Roger Aeschbacher claimed an outstanding 3rd place overall, securing a well-deserved World Cup podium after a week of consistently strong flying against one of the strongest international fields.

👏 Sarah Zimmermann finished 9th in the women's classification, adding another solid international result to her successful season.

Another great Swiss storyline came from Andy Aebi, who returned to international competition after an 18-year break and proved that experience never fades, delivering an impressive performance throughout the week.

Congratulations to all Swiss pilots for representing Switzerland with skill, determination and sportsmanship!

🇨🇭 Swiss pilots shine at SRS Le Grand-Bornand 2026! 🪂

Four challenging tasks over the French Alps delivered everything from demanding flatland transitions and turbulent ridge racing to an all-out high-speed final under blue skies. Throughout the competition, the Swiss team consistently proved they belonged at the very front of the field.

Highlights included:
🥈 Marco Sommerfeld storming to 2nd place in Task 3, while also adding a strong 4th place in Task 1.
🔥 Frédéric Monnet flew an outstanding competition, finishing 5th in Task 3, 8th in Task 1, and 9th in the fast-paced final Task 4.
💪 Gaëtan Ge**er secured 11th place in Task 4, with Pascal Blum following in 14th, giving Switzerland three pilots inside the Top 15 on the final day.

The consistency continued in the overall standings:
• Pascal Blum – 8th overall
• Simon Steiner – 10th overall
• Gaëtan Ge**er, Marco Sommerfeld and Frédéric Monnet all secured places inside the overall Top 25.

The Swiss teams were equally impressive:
🥇 Gin 2 won the overall team classification.
🥉 Alpine Wings finished 3rd overall, underlining the depth and strength of the Swiss squad.
