Blue sky. Fresh powder. Level 4 avalanche danger ‼️
This is when people make their worst decisions.
🚨
What you see here happens all the time — multiple skiers exposed, skiing above each other, racing for fresh tracks, even after an avalanche has already run.
🚨
On a 4 / 5 (or 4+) day, the focus should be terrain selection — not powder.
🚨
Key reminders:

• Most avalanches happen on slopes between 30–45°
• Ski one at a time in avalanche terrain
• Wait in safe islands, not underneath the slope
• Tracks don’t mean it’s safe - just because it been skied
• Blue sky doesn’t mean stable
• Your group is your rescue — not ski patrol
• Gear only matters if you know how to use it
🚨
Right now around the Verbier area we have a persistent weak layer, which means remote triggering and unexpected avalanches are possible.
🚨
You should also be aware of:
• Terrain traps (gullies, cliffs, trees, flats that increase burial risk)
• Snowpack and persistent weak layers
• Wind direction and wind loading
• Slope aspect and elevation
• Recent avalanche activity
• Snowfall amounts and snow history
🚨
If you’re unsure — step back. Choose lower-angle terrain or have fun on piste.
Powder will come again.
🚨
There are excellent tools and education resources available:

👉 White Risk (Swiss avalanche education & planning)
👉 SLF (WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research) avalanche bulletin
👉 Avalanche courses (AST / AIARE / local guides)
👉 Local daily bulletins wherever you ski
🚨
Please share this — awareness prevents accidents.
🚨
It’s just not worth the risk.

🎥 Big thanks to for the second avalanche video and to for the 3rd 🙏🙏🙏
