Moving into the second phase at the Stade Compound, participants put theory into practice—combining physical activity with direct health checks provided by the Vanuatu Family Health Association (VFHA) team.

From mastering serving and spiking drills to learning referee signals and accessing vital sexual and reproductive health awareness, every session was designed to strengthen both physical skill and health autonomy.

Active minds, healthy bodies, and a shared game. 🔥✨

Sport opened the door, but meaningful conversation created the shift. 💬🏐

During the first week in the Fresh Wota community (Tasiriki Ward), the Volley4Change workshops went far beyond the volleyball court. Participants engaged in open sessions on key issues impacting their daily lives:

The Vanuatu Volleyball Federation (VVF) officially partnered with the Vanuatu Family Health Association (VFHA) to launch the programme across the five wards of Port Vila.

Coinciding with International Women's Day, this collaboration brought together sport, equitable access to health services, and community empowerment. Because when local organisations aligned their efforts, communities thrived. 🌍💙

When a space fills with light, sport and community, even a single point becomes a shared celebration.

In Maldo in Ethiopia’s Hadiya Region, volleyball is a meeting point where young people play, build confidence, find role models and support one another.

Because the biggest dreams are never achieved alone. They are built as a team. 👥💙

In Shallala, Orde and Maldo in Ethiopia’s Hadiya Region, the Beyond the Net project has focused on equipping local spaces with what was needed to make them thrive.

Here is how these spaces have been energised:

🏗️ Community Courts: Adapted spaces for volleyball that now serve as daily gathering points for everyone.

💡 Solar Energy: Solar lighting that allows sports, school activities and neighbourhood life to continue long after sunset.

🎓 Local Leadership: Training for local teachers and community leaders in volleyball methodology and child safeguarding - ensuring the project is owned and run by the community itself.

It’s about sharing tools, building infrastructure and stepping back so that local talent and leadership can take centre stage.

In Ethiopia’s Hadiya region, communities like Shallala, Orde and Maldo face limited access to street lighting and safe spaces for young people to gather after sunset.

This affects more than evening recreation. It can reduce opportunities for young people to connect, stay active and participate in community life.

Without a safe place to gather, light and role models, the potential of hundreds of young people remains constrained by their environment.

Today, volleyball serves as the perfect spark to bring safety back to their evenings, unite entire families and empower youth to take charge of their own future. 🏐✨

Dreaming big starts small 🇰🇪🏐

In Githurai 45, a patch of dirt and a volleyball are enough to rewrite the rules.
Real change doesn't come from big speeches; it starts with something as concrete as giving these girls a safe space to focus, fail, get back up and build confidence.
Over 70 new girls joined the programme last year. That is how a community’s future gets reshaped: step by step, action by action. 💜

Githurai 45: Building opportunity through volleyball 🇰🇪🏐

For many young people growing up in Githurai, access to education, safe spaces and opportunities can be limited.


But Githurai is also home to a strong and ambitious community, full of young people determined to shape their own futures.

That’s where volleyball comes in as a driving force for transformation and a real tool to access educational scholarships and build a different future.
