FIH President mourns the passing of Olympic and World Champion Khalid Mahmood:
"Deeply saddened by the passing of Pakistani hockey legend Khalid Mahmood.
Khalid was an exceptional player and a true champion of our sport. He was a member of the Pakistan men’s national team that made history by winning the inaugural FIH Hockey World Cup in 1971, having already celebrated Olympic gold with Pakistan at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
His contribution to hockey did not end with his playing career. As a manager, he continued to serve the sport with the same dedication, leadership, and passion, earning immense respect throughout the hockey community.
Khalid Mahmood leaves behind a remarkable legacy. His achievements, his leadership - both on and off the field - and, above all, his passion for hockey will be remembered for generations to come.
My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, teammates, and the entire hockey community in Pakistan. May he rest in peace."
