We're so delighted to introduce Fabio Francisco Freire! He is a Brazilian-Swiss musician, composer, and percussionist whose work blends Afro-Brazilian rhythms with European musical influences. Based in Basel, he performs internationally and is a founding member of the Ignis Quartet, known for its rich fusion of traditional and contemporary sound.

A long-time part of Basel’s artistic scene, Fabio leads percussion and rhythm courses — including Barracuda Brasileira at the Musik-Akademie Basel — where he shares his deep connection to rhythm, community, and cultural exchange.
In his teaching, Fabio brings energy, precision, and joy to the studio.

His classes invite dancers and musicians alike to explore rhythm not just as sound, but as movement, dialogue, and expression.

We’re happy to introduce a member of our team, Maria Bugova a Slovak pianist and seasoned ballet accompanist now based in Basel. After graduating with top honours from the Bratislava Conservatory, she dedicated around 25 years in Slovakia as a ballet répétiteur before relocating to Switzerland in 1996.

Following her move, Maria served as ballet accompanist for Ballett Basel for 18 years and has been accompanying classes at the Braswell Arts Center since 2015.

Her work extends beyond playing the piano. Maria brings deep musical insight into the dance studio, adapting tempo, mood and phrasing to support dancers at all levels

At Braswell, students benefit from her decades-long experience: her accompaniment helps refine movement through musical clarity, responsiveness and a strong sense of rhythm.
