As a new chapter begins on the site of the former Cherrydale Golf Course, our family has spent some time reflecting on what the course meant to us and to so many others over the years.
For decades, Cherrydale was the vision and passion of our dad, Dale Cherry. What many saw as a golf course was, to him, a dream that became a reality through years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. It became a place where friendships were formed, tournaments were played, families gathered, and memories were made.
It was never just a golf course. It was one of Dad's dreams brought to life. Like many of the projects he took on throughout his life, it started with an idea, grew through hard work and determination, and became something that brought people together. Those who knew Dale know he was always dreaming about what could come next. In many ways, Cherrydale reflected the man behind it.
In 2023, Dad spent much of the summer battling cancer before passing away in September. As anyone who has walked that road knows, life changes quickly, and priorities become focused on family, health, and time together.
Following his passing, we faced the difficult reality of moving forward without the person who had been its driving force for so many years.
While recent comments have unfairly and incorrectly suggested the course was abandoned, we believe it is important to remember the decades of effort, sacrifice, and investment that built Cherrydale into a place enjoyed by thousands of golfers and community members.
We wish the new owners success as they begin their journey and hope they are able to create a bright future for the community. We also hope that the history and contributions of those who built Cherrydale—and of those who worked, volunteered, and played there—be remembered with fairness and respect.
We are proud of what Cherrydale represented and grateful to everyone who helped make it special over the years.
Thank you to the staff, golfers, neighbours, family, friends, and supporters who were part of the Cherrydale story. It couldn't have happened without you.
Most of all, thank you, Dad. We miss you every day.
❤️ Dale Cherry's legacy will live on, and his spirit will always be present.
