Somba K'e Paddling Club
Yellowknife's go-to club for all things paddling.
07/23/2026
This past weekend the Somba K'e Paddling Club sent 6 of its rowers to attend a training camp at Lakeland Rowing Club in Vermilion, AB. After 5 practices in 3 days and many kilometres, the crew has learned a lot and had the chance to do some fun sprint races.
Many thanks to Lakeland for hosting the SKPC! Perhaps next year, everyone comes North?

We’ll meet at Cassidy Point Wednesday July 1st, at 11:00 AM and paddle to Tartan Rapids (approximately 2 km each way). Pack a lunch, water, sunscreen, and dress for the weather.
Reminder: Club membership is required and can be purchased through www.albertawhitewater.ca/somba-ke-paddling-club-yellowknife.
Need a boat? Rentals are available in limited numbers, so please email us to reserve one. If you need a ride or have extra space in your vehicle, email us and we’ll help coordinate carpooling.
See you on the water

We are still actively recruiting for two youth programs! Both of these programs are **TOTALLY FREE** and run from now until the end of August.
Program 1: Learn to Row Youth Program - aimed at young women and girls. Practices are indoors on Fridays until the thaw.
Program 2: Learn to Marathon Canoe program - aimed at Indigenous youth. Practices are indoors on Mondays until the thaw.
If you have kids that would be interested in participating in these programs, but they don't fit in these categories, still send us a message!

Registration for the SKPC’s Youth Rowing Program is now open and practices start March 27! There are only eight spots for this program. Register for the "Youth Rowing Program" at https://membership.rowingcanada.org/Join
For more information on practices, send an email to [email protected].
The Youth Learn-to-Row program is looking to ideally recruit young women and girls, but we are also open to accepting participants of any of the following equity-deserving populations provided that they are between the ages of 14 - 18: Black, Indigenous, Racialized, 2SLGBTQQIA+, Persons with a Disability, Newcomers, and Low-Income populations. If your child does not identify with any of these equity-deserving groups but still wants to participate, send us an email to discuss options.
This program is entirely free, thanks to Rowing Canada Aviron's Community Sport for All Initiative. Through indoor and on-water practices from March to August 2026, participants will learn the foundations of rowing.
