Happy Monday everyone! This week officially kicks off our Fall sessions for PreCanskate, Canskate, and Advanced Canskate. We are all rested and ready to start the new year and welcome back some new and returning faces!

Just a few things as we get underway:
- Try to arrive 15 minutes early if possible as we typically do a quick warm up in the dressing room.
(Monday Precanskate 5:20-5:50pm)
(Tuesday/Thursday Canskate 5:15-6:00pm)
(Tuesday/Thursday Advanced 6:05-6:50pm)

- Parents are able to accompany skaters to help them get ready for the ice, we do ask that only ONE parent enter the dressing room. It tends to get crowded quickly if we allow more than one.

- Skaters MUST have a CSA approved helmet and mittens/gloves prior to stepping on the ice. This is mandatory and non-negotiable (just a heads up...fuzzy mittens tend to get stuck to the ice.)

- We will be using Arena 2 for now! It is best to dress your skater in an extra layer that can be easily removed if your skater gets too warm but try to refrain from snow suits or bulky jackets, as they tend to restrict movement. If your child is doing canskate to prepare them for hockey, they do not have to wear their hockey gear for canskate but it is optional.

- We only have the skaters on the ice for 45 minutes, in order to keep them moving and their attention, we ask that you take your child to the washroom prior to the stepping on the ice. You may bring a water bottle for them for AFTER the session, but we do not give water breaks during the time they are on the ice.

- If you have selected the pay in person option when registering, there will a registration table in the lobby. We will confirm payment and make sure you skater is on the list.

- Name tags will be collected at the end of every session this season! These tags will track your skaters progress right on the back. They will be needed to keep them in their assigned group!

***once skaters are on the ice...Please DO NOT open the door to the ice surface and take your child off the ice without a coach or program assistant knowing. In the event your child falls or looks distressed, please give the coaches time to assess the situation. They will bring your skater to you if they are unable to console them or if they have sustained an injury.***

Keep in mind we have roughly 30-50 skaters taking the ice for Canskate, some new and some who are returning. The first week always looks like complete chaos as we place skaters in their proper groups. We ask that you be patient as we navigate through this as best as we can! See you all later today!

The time has arrived!! FALL REGISTRATION INFORMATION for Pre-Canskate, Canskate and Advanced Canskate! ⛸️

We have slight changes to our programs this season, so please read the following carefully to know which program to register your skater.

PRE-CANSKATE: this program is designed for NEW skaters. This includes skaters new to the program or skaters who did not advance to stage 1 from Precanskate last season. This session will now be on MONDAY nights.
* If your child has never been with our program please register for the Precanskate program. Your skater will be assessed and placed in the appropriate group for their skill level. If your child is new to the program but has participated in hockey prior to this season please reach out prior to registering *

CANSKATE (Stage 1-3): this program is for returning skaters who are in stages 1-3. This session will run on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS. If you are unsure where your skater stands after last season, send us a message or email the club at [email protected]
* If your child is from minor hockey or has skated at a previous club, please reach out to the club so we can find the best group for your skater *

ADVANCED CANSKATE (Stage 4-6): this is a coach invitation only session. Skaters who qualify to attend will be returning from last year or will be contacted if your child is eligible to move. This session will run on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS.

Registration will be open online on August 14th and will be open until August 28th. We will not be accepting late registrations after Aug 28th if the program is full. Wait list skaters will be contacted first if there is space available after closing date. Please be aware we reserve the right to move your skater to the appropriate session if registration of program does not reflect skill level.

Start date for our Fall sessions will be September 7th and run for 5 weeks to October 8th.

Looking for something to do and give back to the community at the same time over the winter months? The Yarmouth Skating club is looking for volunteers to help with our Canskate program as Program Assistants! 🤩

*Basic skating skills are required to help on ice.*

This is a great opportunity for high school students needing volunteer hours for school programs.

Send coach Natasha an email at [email protected] or send us a private message to inquire.
