A dated video but, still very relevant. It would be wonderful if all teachers could experience this lesson. It really helps in understanding the struggles of a learning disability in a classroom setting.

The Learning Disabilities Association of New Brunswick is having an information session for parents of struggling readers at the AYR Motor Centre on Wednesday, February 26 @ 6:30pm. They will be discussing the Barton tutoring program and how it could work in Woodstock.

Jacob Blumenstein is a very inspirational young man! I highly recommend you check out his website www.kidsread2kids.com which provides free video-audio books read by kids for kids - filmed chapter by chapter for easy listening. Having your child listen to an audio-book is an excellent activity to build their reading skills. And if they are ready, they can even follow along with their own printed copy of the book.
On his website, Jacob is reading from decodable chapter books, Simple Word Books, by Cigdem Knebel. The chapter books are for higher interest levels with low reading level (High/low books). My son is currently enjoying these books. www.simplewordsbooks.com

Will listening to audiobooks slow down children's learning to read? .... No, it will actually help them be better readers!
Audio books also help dyslexic children keep up with their peers, by taking away the focus on decoding and letting them focus on comprehension, meaning, and higher-level vocabulary acquisition.
Here is a great article on this topic.
"The first thing to know is that listening to audiobooks isn’t “cheating.” The main purpose of reading is to get information. It doesn’t matter what path that information takes to reach the brain."
