Winnipeg Winter Club

Jett and Mariya, two Manitoba top-ranked junior players, represented Manitoba at the U16 Nationals at Granite Club in Toronto. The tournament was played on clay, which was a challenge for both since we don’t have this type of clay court in Winnipeg. Their level and results improved with every match as they adjusted to the surface. Jett played two singles matches, including a very close three-set battle, 4–6, 6–1, 4–6. Mariya played three close singles matches, winning one, and had a great run in doubles, reaching the semifinals with her partner Alexandra from BC.
Mariya also received the Fair Play Award for the second time at Nationals. The award recognizes athletes who demonstrates good sportsmanship, respect for opponents and officials, honesty and a positive attitude on court.
