Due to the possibility of inclement weather tonight, the organizing group that represents the dogs, Wienie and Friends, have made the decision to postpone tonight’s Wiener Dog Races at Assiniboia Downs.

A new race date will be announced in the coming days.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and look forward to welcoming all of our speedy little racers back soon! 🐾🏁

Crowds reminiscent of the 1970s have continued to show up at ASD all season, and fans were treated to some excellent and adventurous performances in the early 2-year-old stakes last week.

Manitoba Derby runner-up Quarry won the $200,000 Canadian Derby (G3) for trainer Jerry Gourneau and owner Henry S. Witt Jr. last night at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino with Damario Bynoe in the saddle. And he was 10-1!

The Running of the 97th Canadian Derby goes to Quarry and jockey Damario Bynoe!
The three year old bay gelding by War of Will out of the mare Black Dynamite is bred by Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, is owned by Henry Witt Jr. and trained by Jerry Gourneau.

Circle the Bird, a $4,500 purchase at the 2025 Manitoba CTHS Yearling Sale, was a romping winner of the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes at ASD last night. The daughter of Speculating-Sweet Tizzy Lizzy by Tiznow has a full sister (Hip #47) in the yearling sale today, which begins at 2:30 at ASD. https://www.cthsmb.ca/yearling-sale

Bred by Keaton and Aiden Ziprick, Circle the Bird is now a perfect 2-for-2 for trainer Mike Nault and owners Scott MacKenzie and Madison Leonard. Former Hastings Park rider Kerron Khelawan was in the saddle for both wins. Congratulations!
