It’s draft day at Jumpstart Camp!

Our U9 and U11 summer hockey camp, week 1, is officially underway this week with the players partaking in on ice development and games, outside activities, gym challenges and other off-ice sports.

A fun week filled with lots of laughs, compete, and activities!

✨MEET THE COACHES✨

Gawly brings a wealth of experience to Evolution Hockey after spending time competing overseas in Europe.

After returning to Manitoba, Gawly joined Evolution Hockey as a coach, sharing the knowledge and experience he gained throughout his playing career. He is passionate about helping players improve their skills, build confidence, and develop a deeper understanding and love for the game.

This season, Gawly will also be joining the coaching staff of the Winnipeg Monarchs as an Assistant Coach.

This summer Gawly has been coaching the U16F, U13, U11 and U9 sessions. He will also be a lead coach for the U13AA and U15AAA prep week.

Billy joined Evolution Hockey as a player over seven years ago and has since developed a deep passion for helping young athletes enjoy the game while working toward their goals. Having grown up training with Evolution himself, he understands firsthand the impact purposeful development and a positive coaching environment can have on an athlete’s growth.

A WHL draft pick in 2021 and former member of Team Manitoba’s U16 Program of Excellence, Cole brings valuable firsthand experience competing at the elite level.

This summer Billy has been coaching the U22F, U18AAA, U15AAA sessions and will help lead both our jumpstart and AAA prep camps.

✨ PLAYER SPOTLIGHT ✨

Owen, Avery & Graeme Pickering have each made their mark as defenders, skating with EVO for more than six years, bringing an exceptional level of compete, game awareness and hockey IQ.

After appearing in 29 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Owen has continued to establish himself at the professional level. This past season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he led all team defenders in points, helping the Penguins finish with the third-best record in the AHL.

A standout defender at Colgate, Avery is entering her senior season looking to help lead her team to a successful campaign. A former member of Hockey Canada’s U18 National Team, Avery brings a high level of compete, poise and hockey IQ to the blue line.

The youngest of the three, Graeme was drafted by the Red Deer Rebels and spent this past season with the MJHL’s Winkler Flyers Hockey Club as a 16-year-old. Continuing to make his mark beyond his years, Graeme showcased his skill, competitiveness and ability to impact the game from the back end.

Lainger joined Evolution Hockey in the summer of 2021 and is passionate about developing young athletes through the love of sport. Growing up in small-town Manitoba, Ryan played competitive hockey for 15 years, giving him a strong foundation and appreciation for the game that he now brings to his coaching.

While completing his diploma in Business Administration, Ryan moved to Alberta where he coached collegiate volleyball. Following graduation, he returned to Manitoba and continued his coaching career at the university level, gaining valuable experience in athlete development and team building.

At Evolution, Ryan is focused on accelerating player development, building team morale, and creating an environment where athletes are encouraged to compete, grow, and develop a genuine love for the game.

This summer Ryan is leading the U9, U11, U13, and U16F programming helping to grow the next generation of young athletes!

As the Director of Goaltending with Evolution Hockey and a Hockey Canada Certified Goalie Coach, Hilty has led the growth of Evolution’s Goaltending program since joining the organization in 2020, creating purposeful training that helps goalies of all levels build their skill set and confidence.

In addition to his role with Evolution Hockey, Hilty served as the goaltending coach for the MJHL’s Selkirk Steelers from 2021–2026 and was the goaltending consultant for Team Manitoba’s U16 Program of Excellence.

This summer, Brant will be leading Evolution’s goaltending sessions with the HP1, WHL & WHL Prep goaltenders, helping them refine their technique, improve their game awareness, and build the confidence to perform at their best.
