A 14* Beveridge brassie play club. Persimmon head. Circa 1894.

This is one of two J. Beveridge play clubs. The second one is currently receiving its topcoat. This is one of the earliest bulgers dating back to 1895.

Sorry for posting this twice. I did it from my computer for the first time and this post didn’t go to my other social media accounts. Here is a persimmon J. Jackson short spoon going to a friend.

This is the first James Beveridge play club made with persimmon. I took it for a walk 9 days ago. I was amazed at how it performed. No fish story here. No wind and very hot. 390 yard par 4. I managed to square the face at impact (thank you golf gods) and left myself with a 3/4 niblick approach. Estimated approach was 110 yards. The loft on this club is 15*. A few holes earlier I used it on another par 4. Hit it every bit as good, possibly better than the described shot. I’m not here to boast about the distance, instead what this replica circa 1895 club is capable of. I was using a Wilson Duo. The roll and bulge technology is amazing and this was done 130 years ago. Hats off to the old club makers.

A McEwan long spoon with persimmon head. My photography doesn’t paint an accurate picture. It is more brown with visible grain. I used a water based aniline dye but I think it’s back to oil. I have found out quickly persimmon is quite fussy. No short cuts.
