Pretty cool!
A Long Island Lake visitor recently won 1st place in a photo contest on a Pentax forum. He’s out here frequently enjoying the lake with his family, and snapped the photo earlier in the season.
For context, this forum is big (5 million monthly views and 1000 daily posts) - largest like it in the the world. Check it out:

While out fishing, my daughter and I met another dad-daughter fishing pair on the lake. Shoutout and hello to “Steve” and his daughter! Hope the perch was tasty! 🎣
We were chatting about fish in the lake.
We have pike and perch in this lake. You can keep up to 15 of the yellow perch, and one of the northern pike if over 63cm long.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to mention the regulations in a post, too.
Make sure you have your fishing license and a copy of the regulations. The Alberta Realm app is a great resource where you can see your WIN card, fishing license, and download the regulations to your phone. There’s often NO service in or around this lake, so be prepared with a downloaded copy if need be.
The iOS version of the app is here:

Happy Sunday! Not so happy post. Seems like this summer is a bit angrier than normal (sorry). But…I think you’ll agree with the following.
I’m going to preface this post with:
1) I am NOT a county employee
2) this is NOT an official page
3) I am a random guy who loves the area and hates to see it being abused.
…visited the muni campground yesterday and took pics of a few things of interest.
Note the garbage cans.
They are there for your garbage.
Pick up your trash.
It was a busy day and I saw people blatantly leave cans and plastic on the beach. wtf?!🤬
Check out the new toilets this year. Nice buildings.
They’re for doing #1 and #2!
If you’re part of a family of approx ~9 from earlier this year, pooping in the bush 10 ft away from the toilet, or having your naked child go in the lake to do the 2 business is NOT acceptable. Why do I even have to say this?
This is not how we do it here, folks. Especially not around water.
Come on folks.
It’s a beautiful spot here. Don’t wreck it. Make it your secret.
Keep it clean and quiet. Pick up your garbage, respect the land. I shouldn’t have to hear from a friend who stepped in stuff, or see unpublishable photos of human excrement. Nor should the hard working staff here have to clean up after you!
Grow up or stay away. Please. Don’t wreck this for others. And call out people if you see this happen. Let the managers there know if uncertain what to do.
Please keep the lake and surrounding area clean. We don’t need this turning into what other places have.

Okay. Don’t be this guy. Seriously, stupid.
Please note this pic is an Ai version of the occurrence to protect the actual human.
Seen Friday, a man sitting on the bow of the boat, no life jacket, both legs dangling in front, while the boat drives forwards. And no, it wasn’t going that slow either.
The actual video was sent to me by a concerned beach goer.
And she’s 100% right.
This is STUPID. Nope, I’m not worried about making friends with this post.
DON’T DO THIS, because it will probably be one of us dragging you out of your prop.
It sets a horrible example for kids, too.
It’s illegal (transport Canada stuff). But that’s beside the point. It’s just really quite silly.
Thanks to “you know who you are” for reaching out. Happy to share things if it means this lake stays safe.
Back to the morning coffee. See you on the lake today, or online in a day or so.

Lost dog, found at the Long Island Lake area:
This dog was located at the Long Island RV resort.
It’s currently located at the Long Island Lake municipal campground.
Contact the campground via contact information in the comments below or contact this page (please note this is NOT an official page and is monitored sporadically through the day).
Thank you.

A ‘friendlier’ PSA heading into the long weekend:
If you’re in, or pass through Westlock on the way to the lake, stop by Sobeys Westlock! The store is locally owned and *gives back to the community*, so I’m happy to give them a shout out here in return - especially for their bakery!! 🤤
They make their donuts fresh, in store. Not many places in Canada do this anymore. So good. So so good. And the garlic cheese bread…mmm.
They still had donuts available before lunch. Snag them before they’re gone. I hid the veggies from the photo, because veggies…blah.
Happy long weekend everyone!

Public service announcement thanks to a concerned boater who reported unsafe behaviour:
Yesterday two adults decided to swim from the beach area to the island - just two little heads barely bobbing on the surface.
The lake is set up in a manner that boats circle the island in a counterclockwise rotation as a part of the travels around the lake.
Although swimmers may see boats, boats may have trouble seeing two small heads bobbing in the water, especially when there’s waves or rough water. This is why you’ll see kids on knee boards and wake boards hold the boards up in the water when they wipe out (visibility!).
PLEASE if swimming outside the designated swim area, be visible, raise your hand if unsure if you’re seen, and stay out of the boat traffic area where possible (transit quickly).
You wouldn’t crawl across the road in the city and hope that cars see you. Don’t do it in the water either, please. Be water and boat smart.

Look at this engorged juicy little fella, from the bush near the day-use area parking at the beach. Found after a wonderful day at the lake.
Check your pets and kids. This one is currently latched onto some skin in the hair in this pic. 🤢
Tick findings should be reported to Etick.ca as this was.
🤬Looks like they’re here this year.
