West River Karate

Day 1 of the # # Pan American Junior Karate Championships start tomorrow with Kai Lim & Evan Choi. Kai is competing in the U14 Male Kata & U14 Male +55kg Kumite divisions, while Evan is competing in the U14 -40kg division.

Day 3 will see Team Canada Captain, Ethan Choi competing in the Junior Male Kata, & Junior Male -55kg Kumite divisions. Katrina Lee will be competing in the Junior Female Kata division.

Our dojo’s athletes are headed to Costa Rica 🇨🇷 this weekend to compete at the upcoming # # Pan-American Junior Karate Championships. They’ve all worked incredibly hard to earn this opportunity, they’ve trusted the process, and THEY ARE PREPARED!!! 🔥🔥🔥 We wish them all the best of luck. We are family… We are West River Karate!!!

It’s been a little less than 2 weeks since the dust has settled.

Our dojo sent 4 athletes to the Karate Canada Junior National Championships in Edmonton, and came back with 6 medals, 2 golds 🥇🥇 & 4 silvers 🥈🥈🥈🥈.

West River Karate is the home of the 2025/2026 Junior Male Athlete of the Year, 2 *NEW* Canadian National Champions, and 4x Canadian National Team members 🇨🇦.

Words cannot express how proud I am of this group. They’ve worked extremely hard, through adversity, rough patches, lessons new and old, and everything else in between. Through these experiences they’ve only grown stronger, more disciplined, and more resilient. Let’s take a moment to congratulate them all.

West River Karate is repping hard day 1 of the 2026 Karate Canada Junior Nationals in Edmonton.

Katrina Lee & Kai Lim are the new reigning Canadian National Champions for the Female Junior, and Male U14 kata divisions 🥇🏆🇨🇦

After completing 8 rounds of kata, and 8 grueling rounds of kumite, Ethan Choi once again shows everyone why he’s still one of Canada’s premier karate dual athletes with double silver medal finish 🥈🥈 and a spot on the National Team roster 🇨🇦

Evan Choi finishes with a very respectable 5th place finish in the U14 male kata division. He’s only 11, and will be back to take the crown next year.

Day 1 of Nationals is over for us, but Evan and Kai will be back for day 3 on Sunday. Stay tuned for more results.
