It’s the people behind the YMCA who make the difference. Every day, our staff help create a welcoming place where people can connect, try something new, build confidence, and feel part of the community.

✨Staff Spotlight✨

Meet Alaa, one of our dedicated YMCA lifeguards, who recently earned the prestigious Loran Scholarship, becoming one of only 36 recipients across Canada!

This September, Alaa will begin his studies at UBC Okanagan as he works toward his goal of becoming a nurse and continuing to make a difference in the lives of others.

We're incredibly proud of Alaa's achievement and grateful to be part of his journey. His passion for helping others and commitment to community inspire us every day.🎉

🦷A first tooth is a pretty big deal!

One of our YMCA Summer Camp kiddos lost their very first tooth while swimming in the pool. Camp leaders, fellow campers, and some of our lifeguards all jumped into action to help search for it. But despite everyone's best efforts, the tiny tooth was nowhere to be found. Then again... maybe the Tooth Fairy had already made her pickup.🧚

Wanting to make sure such an important milestone didn't go unnoticed, YMCA Lifeguard Finn wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy:

"Hi Tooth Fairy. We had a kid who lost his first tooth in our pool at the YMCA. We tried to find it but weren't able to, so I'm writing a note asking if this can be a replacement for his tooth since it's the first tooth he lost. Thanks for understanding. Have a good rest of your day. – Lifeguard Finn"

And guess what? The Tooth Fairy must have received the message, because she stopped by the YMCA and left $10 for the camper!✨

We love moments like these that remind us camp is about so much more than activities, it's about kindness, community, and caring for one another. And sometimes...a little magic shows up when you least expect it!

We're grateful that the YMCA of Southern Interior BC has been selected as the future operator of the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre, beginning January 1, 2027.

We're honoured to partner with the City of West Kelowna in this next chapter and become an even bigger part of a community that values health, recreation, and connection.

For 175 years, YMCAs have been serving communities across Canada, and for 45 years we've been helping people connect, grow, and thrive right here in the Southern Interior. We're excited to bring that experience to JBMAC and the community of West Kelowna while building on the strong foundation already in place.

As transition and planning takes place, the immediate priority will be a focus on continuity, community benefit, working collaboratively with staff, user groups, and the City of West Kelowna to provide a positive experience.

We can't wait to support the West Kelowna community and continue creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect, grow, and thrive.

What an incredible day of community, generosity, and impact!⛳🏌️‍♂️

The 16th Annual Wilson M. Beck Charity Golf Tournament raised a record-breaking $206,582 for the YMCA's Financial Assistance Program. This success was made possible through the collective efforts of 144 golfers, sponsors, prize donors, volunteers, auction participants, and community partners who came together to make a difference!

Every dollar raised helps ensure that YMCA programs, services, and opportunities remain accessible to individuals and families who need them most. As we celebrate 175 years of YMCA service in Canada and 45 years in the Southern Interior, we're grateful for the community that continues to make this work possible.❤

Take a look through these photos to see some of the amazing teams who helped make this record-breaking day possible!
