It's considerably harder to examine how we've been showing up ourselves.

Years ago, I was injured, far from home and expecting people I considered friends to help.

Nobody came.

The immediate story could have been about betrayal.

The more difficult story became one of self-examination:

"What did my own behavior and relationships look like leading up to that moment?"

That question doesn't excuse another person's choices.

It doesn't mean abandonment is deserved.

It means accountability requires examining the part of the story we actually have authority over:

ourselves.

That's part of what the Garage represents.

A place where an honest conversation may reveal something you couldn't see while you were busy defending yourself.

Understanding a Behavior Doesn't Require Tolerating It.

There is value in understanding why we behave the way we do.

Our upbringing matters.

Our environment matters.

Our experiences matter.

Explanation and permission are not the same thing.

At some point, understanding a destructive pattern may need to become responsibility for changing it.

That's the distinction behind this conversation.

Don't hate yourself or direct hatred toward another person.

Don't confuse self-compassion with indefinite tolerance for behavior you already know is damaging your life.

Power Sports Were Never the Destination.

For most of my life, motorcycles and power sports represented escape.

A throttle meant freedom.

Movement.

Distance from whatever was happening behind me.

Today, the machines remain.

Their purpose has changed.

Power sports are tools, not the destination.

They create common ground.

They give people a reason to gather.

They open a door that can lead somewhere considerably deeper than the machine itself.

There's an uncomfortable question sitting underneath all of that:

Do they see us doing it?

Fatherhood has forced me to confront that repeatedly.

I'm going to make mistakes with my boys.

The opportunity isn't pretending otherwise.

It's allowing them to see what happens afterward.

Acknowledge it, apologize.

Repair what can be repaired, and learn from it, then move forward.

Children don't only learn from the standards we give them, they watch what we do when WE fail to meet those standards.

That's where accountability becomes more than something we preach when it becomes something we model.

Why Daditude Is a Garage....

The garage isn't branding, it's memory.
I grew up watching men gather around trucks, motorcycles, tools and broken machines. They came together to repair something tangible.

While their hands were occupied, something else happened.

They talked, they laughed, they told stories, they shared problems, they carried scars and sometimes, without ever calling it healing, they walked out a little different than they walked in.

Years later, I realized those childhood memories contained part of the architecture for Daditude.

We don't use power sports because motorcycles are the mission.

They're tools, & they create common ground.

Before we ride back into the world, we rebuild.

Moving Forward Requires Understanding Of What Came Before.
Childhood isn't an excuse for adulthood but it can provide context.

Long before careers, relationships, titles and responsibilities, we began forming beliefs about ourselves, other people and the world around us.

Some served us well, some didn't.
Some may still be operating decades later without us recognizing them.
That's why part of repair involves examination.

Never mind: "Who can I blame for who I became?"

Rather: "What am I carrying?", "Where did I learn it?", "Does it still belong?"
"What happens next is my responsibility."

That's a very different conversation.

And it's one we're willing to have in the garage.

Not Every Bridge Should Be Burned...

"Burn the bridge."

It sounds decisive but irreversible decisions deserve more than motivational slogans.

In 2022, I walked away from the trucking industry after spending years building my livelihood and identity inside it. That decision became part of a much larger examination of identity.

Who am I without the career? What am I actually leaving behind? What am I moving toward?

Was this courage, conviction, fear, pride or ego making the decision?

Those questions matter in careers, relationships, businesses and life transitions.

Some bridges should be repaired, some should be crossed, & some should be left behind.

The difficult work is developing enough discernment to recognize the difference, that's the kind of conversation we have in the garage.

Breaking the Cycle Doesn't Mean Rejecting Everything Behind You.

Daditude exists because I had daddy issues.
That's uncomfortable to say publicly, but it's also part of the truth behind this company.

For years, I carried resentment toward my father. Age, fatherhood, and perspective have complicated that story.
I've learned that repairing what came before us isn't necessarily about assigning blame.

It's about examining what we inherited. Some things deserve to continue.
Some need to be understood. Some need to stop with us.

Fatherhood gave me a choice:

Repeat what I knew or intentionally build what I didn't. I chose to build.
That's what I mean by Family Man 2.0. Keep the wisdom. Repair the damage.
