This land holds all of us.

It has witnessed countless generations, carried many stories, and continues to teach us what it means to belong not just to a place, but to one another.

Today, we take a moment to appreciate the beauty around us, the communities that make this country home, and the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial.

At The Hummingbird Field, we believe that community begins with connection to the earth beneath our feet, to our neighbours, and to the shared responsibility of caring for one another with compassion, respect, and curiosity.

However today looks for you, we hope you find moments to gather, to rest, to connect, and to appreciate the many ways this land nourishes us all.

With gratitude, always. 🤍

Ustrasana invites us to create gentle openness through the front of the body while building strength and stability through the legs and core.

This heart-opening pose can help improve posture, stretch the chest, shoulders, and hip flexors, and encourage deeper, more intentional breathing. Like any backbend, it’s less about how far you go and more about moving with mindfulness and supporting your body along the way.

Remember: every expression of the pose is valid. Using blocks, keeping your hands at your lower back, or taking a smaller variation are all part of the practice.

Meet yourself where you are today. 🌿🐫🐪

Today marks both the longest day of light on this land, a deep remembering of the history of this land, and the sacred practice we honour as the looking glass into acknowledging these gifts and more.

As the sun pauses in the sky, we take time to honour the First Peoples of this land — their stories, their ceremony, their resilience.

The solstice teaches us to return to what is essential. National Indigenous Peoples Day asks us to do the same: to listen, to acknowledge, to move forward in truth. Our yoga practice shows us this truth when we let all else go and find the ever-present connection to ourselves, each other, and our planet.

At The Hummingbird Field, we recognize that our practice unfolds on land that has long held breath, spirit, and song — well before us. And for the past 19 years, many of Turtle Island’s Indigenous individuals have been gathering and practicing here, free of charge—a small but important reflection of our ongoing respect and gratitude.

May today be met with presence, humility, and deep honouring—for the original stewards of the land upon which we enjoy our sacred practice, and how it helps us better understand and feel Mother Earth’s gentle embrace.

Some conversations are difficult, yet deeply necessary.

Join us for an open community circle as we come together to listen, learn, reflect, and speak honestly about gender-based violence toward women. Through shared dialogue, we can deepen our understanding of how harm is perpetuated within our communities, relationships, and systems and explore how compassion, accountability, and collective care can help create meaningful change.

This gathering is an invitation to move beyond silence and toward greater awareness, connection, and responsibility.
