You’re not supposed to feel confident with a new movement right away.
At first, you’re thinking about everything: your feet, your core, your breathing, where the weight is sitting, whether you’re going low enough… all at once.
That confidence comes from doing the reps. Showing up week after week. Practising the movement until it starts to feel familiar and your body knows what to do without you overthinking every part of it.
And that’s usually a pretty good sign that you’re ready to start challenging yourself with more weight.
Also, a little FYI: if you’ve been doing the same movement for a few months, your form is solid, and you’re feeling very comfortable with the weight… please tell your coach.
Because comfortable might just mean it’s time to go heavier. 😉

I’ve never believed women need more motivation.
I think they need more experiences that prove to them they are stronger than they thought.
And I believe we need to keep talking honestly about the messages women absorb—often so quietly and so consistently that we may not even realize we are still carrying them.
The pressure to be smaller.
To take up less space.
To judge our bodies by how they look instead of what they can do.
I know parts of that experience because I have lived it too.
And after years of coaching women, I have seen what begins to change when a woman is given the right support, the right education and the opportunity to discover her own strength.
She begins to trust herself.
She stops seeing her body only as something to criticize or fix.
She starts to recognize what she is capable of.
That is why I built MOVE.
Yes, we help women build muscle, stronger bones and healthier bodies.
But our work has always gone deeper than that.
We help women build strength through coaching, care, education and standards—not punishment, comparison or shame.
The fitness industry spent decades teaching women to change the shape of their bodies. Be it bigger or smaller.
We chose to help women become stronger.
We don’t build smaller women.
We build stronger ones.
That is why we MOVE 🖤
How do you know when it’s time to go heavier?
If you finish your set with strong form and feel like you had one or two reps left—but would have had to fight for them—you may be ready to increase the weight.
That’s what reps in reserve helps you measure.
And this is one of the things that makes coached strength training different. At MOVE, we don’t just tell you what exercise to do—we teach you how to choose the right weight, understand what your sets should feel like, and recognize when you’re ready to progress.
Coach Thea breaks it down so you can train with more confidence and keep getting stronger.
Save this for your next workout.
Maybe you’re not inconsistent.
Maybe your gym just never noticed when you stopped showing up.
And no — that doesn’t mean consistency isn’t personal.
You still have to show up.
You still have to make the choice.
You still have to keep coming back.
But support matters.
Coaching matters.
Connection matters.
Feeling known matters.
Being in a space where someone sees you, supports you, and helps you build confidence matters.
Because so many women don’t need more shame around fitness.
They need an environment that helps them start — and feel strong enough to stay.
At MOVE, our women’s strength gym in Leslieville, Toronto, we don’t expect women to arrive confident.
We help them build it. 💛
She didn’t notice she was stronger during a workout.
She noticed when she lifted her suitcase into the overhead bin and didn’t need help. We love this!!!
After two months at MOVE, that was the moment.
Just one of those quiet moments where you realize:
“Oh. I can do this now.”
That’s what strength training gives women.
Not just stronger muscles.
More proof that your body can support the life you’re living. Way to go Vanessa Matsui . Grateful to MOVE with you!
You don’t need a perfect week.
You need one promise kept to yourself.
Maybe that promise is 2-3 workouts.
Maybe it’s simply walking through the door when motivation is nowhere to be found.
And how good does it feel when you do that?!
Nothing feels better than ending the week knowing:
“I did what I said I was going to do.”

Show up for yourself this week 🖤
Weights in a class doesn’t automatically mean strength training 👋🏼
Just because there are dumbbells in the room doesn’t mean you’re being coached.
Real strength training is not just following along.
It’s not just moving fast.
It’s not just sweating through a circuit.
Real strength training is learning how to move.
How to brace.
How to hinge.
How to squat.
How to lift with control, confidence, and purpose.
And that requires coaching.
Eyes on your form.
Clear corrections.
Smart progressions.
Support when you need it.
Challenge when you’re ready for it.
At MOVE, you are not left to figure it out alone.
Our classes are designed to help women build real strength in a supportive, structured, coached environment — whether you’re brand new, coming back after years away, or ready to finally train with more intention.
Because strength training should not feel intimidating.
It should feel taught.
Supported.
Personal.
Powerful.
That is the MOVE difference.
Ready to feel coached from day one? Start with our 2-week intro and we’ll help you find your place to begin.
Feeling strong is a kind of freedom.
The freedom of trusting your body again.
The freedom of feeling capable.
The freedom of not doing it alone.
That’s what we’re proud to build every day at MOVE — a women-first strength community where women are coached, supported, and reminded of what they’re capable of.
Proud to be building strong women in our little corner of Toronto.
Happy Canada Day from MOVE 🇨🇦
Another shining example of “I didn’t feel fit enough to join a gym.”
If you’ve ever thought this, have a listen .
Jaycel’s story is exactly why MOVE exists — because getting started shouldn’t require you to already feel confident, strong, or “gym-ready.”
You don’t need to know what you’re doing yet.
You don’t need to be at your goal.
You don’t need to feel fit enough.
You just need a place that meets you where you are — with coaching, support, and women who get it.
This is your reminder: you are allowed to begin before you feel ready.
💛 Start where you are. We’ll help with the rest.
One missed workout should not turn into three weeks of starting over.
But for so many women, it does.
If you’ve started…
but you’re not where you want to be yet…
you’re probably in the messy middle.
The place where motivation isn’t as high as it was at the beginning.
The goal still feels far away.
And one imperfect week can start to feel like proof that you’re failing.
You miss a class.
Your food isn’t perfect.
Life gets busy.
Your energy is low.
You feel behind.
And suddenly your brain starts telling you:
“I ruined it.”
“I’ll restart Monday.”
“I need to get myself together first.”
“I’m too far behind now.”
But that’s the all-or-nothing trap.
When every workout has to be perfect, your brain starts treating fitness like another place to fall short.
So you avoid it.
You wait for a better week.
You tell yourself you’ll come back when life feels calmer.
But you don’t need to start over every time life gets messy.
You need to learn how to come back without shame.
That’s the messy middle.
The part where progress doesn’t look perfect.
The part where motivation dips.
The part where life interrupts.
The part where you decide whether one imperfect week becomes the reason you quit — or the place you learn to return.
Because strength isn’t built by waiting for perfect conditions.
It’s built by learning how to keep showing up in real life.
At MOVE, we help women in Toronto start strength training in a way that feels supportive, beginner-friendly, and sustainable.
Especially if gyms have always felt intimidating.
You don’t have to be perfect to be here.
Save this for the week you feel like giving up.
And send it to the woman who needs to know she doesn’t have to start over. She just has to come back.
