BREAKING ON CRICKCHIRP: MLC Set to Enter Canada With Two Franchises

Major development in Canadian cricket!
Crickchirp has learned that Cricket Canada has approved Major League Cricket (MLC) to enter the Canadian market with two franchise teams.
The plan is for the first Canadian franchise to be based in the Greater Toronto Area — with Brampton or Toronto understood to be the likely destination — beginning next year. A second franchise is expected to be added after a few years, with the western part of Canada being considered for expansion.
The development is significant because MLC would bring an established North American T20 franchise competition into the Canadian market. Reports earlier this summer had already identified Toronto as a potential MLC expansion destination for 2027.
GT20 and MLC to co-exist

Importantly, the MLC entry is not expected to overlap with the Canadian GT20 arrangement.
The GT20 opportunity will continue to be offered to an organisation through a separate negotiation. However, there is reportedly an important caveat:T20 cricket will not be treated as an exclusive property for one organisation in Canada.
That could make the Canadian T20 landscape considerably more competitive.
Cricket Canada previously granted NCL Canada a long-term licence to operate the GT20.
What happens to GT20 now?
After Bombay Sports lost its arbitration case against Cricket Canada over GT20 rights, and with the previous NCL arrangement having subsequently been terminated/restructured, the big question now is:
Who will pick up the GT20 slot and under what terms?

Cricket Canada itself announced on July 30 that it had prevailed in its arbitration with Bombay Sports.
The most interesting part of the equation may be the non-exclusivity clause.
For years, the Canadian cricket landscape has revolved around the idea of a major T20 property controlling the commercial space. If MLC enters Canada while GT20 continues independently, that model could be about to change.
Two major T20 properties. One Canadian market. And potentially a very different cricket business landscape.
