John Tavares and Patrick Marleau are challenging roughly $11.8 million in combined additional taxes assessed by the CRA on Leafs signing bonuses.

At the heart of the case: Were these payments legitimate incentives to sign in Canada, or simply salary under another name?

The ruling could have major implications for how Canadian NHL teams structure contracts and compete with U.S. markets for elite players.

This is way bigger than two former Leafs teammates.
