You'll always be learning in surfing; that's the best part. Here's what most people don't know: even getting slightly better means having way more fun out there.

Your first lesson teaches you what to rent, how to stay safe, and how to practice — skills you can take to any surf beach in the world. Your second lesson is where it gets good: popping up cleaner, paddling stronger, controlling your speed, going sideways.

With a bit of support along the way, you get more bang for your buck out of every session. Book a follow-up, ask about multi-lesson packages, and progress on your own terms — you can even swap board sizes throughout your rental as your skills grow.

We only do private lessons — no big-group chaos, no 30 matching rash guards crowding the waves. From the moment you arrive at the shop until you're back at your car, someone is looking after just you and your people: suiting up, safety briefing, every wave.

Lessons happen in shallow, safe water with your instructor right beside you the whole time — floaty boards, wetsuits that help you float, and parents close by on the beach. It's why nervous first-timers, kids, and people who've never been in the ocean leave the water smiling.

This isn't just our business model; it's our philosophy. We take one family at a time, we don't hog the parking lot, and we leave room in the water for everyone — because we live here, and we surf here too.

Your coaches aren't seasonal workers passing through — they're career instructors with over 100 combined years of teaching, led by Catherine Bruhwiler: Canada's first sponsored female surfer, multi-time national champion, and a Tofino local who's been teaching on these beaches since she was 13.

The whole team lives here, surfs here year-round, and still trains together with their own team coach — because experts keep learning too.

Our shop sits right on tinwis (MacKenzie Beach), with loads of free parking and every accessory included free. You rent your gear and walk straight onto the sand — no logistics, no shuttling, no stress.

There's kid-friendly surf out front year-round, calm flat water at one end for paddling, and small waves breaking at the northern end. And on the days conditions call for a change, we make it effortless: free roof racks for every car, a five-minute drive to South Chesterman, or a simple swap to a SUP or kayak right out front.

Whatever the ocean is doing, your day on the water works.

August evenings in Tofino hit different.

The fog burns off by mid-afternoon, the water goes flat and golden, and there is genuinely nowhere better to be than out on a paddleboard at 7pm watching it all happen.

Our Sunset Paddle is a private guided tour — 1.5 hours on the calm water at tinwis, everything included, no experience needed. Just show up and we take care of the rest.
