What a weekend in Winnipeg for our Track & Field team! In addition to Parker's silver medal, our athletes had 9 more top-10 finishes!

On top of that, many of our athletes ran, jumped and/or threw personal bests, which is the true goal of Track & Field. All of our Track & Field coaching staff are incredibly proud of the effort put forward by our athletes this weekend!

Provincial Silver Medal Alert!

Congratulations to Parker Clements, silver medal winner of the Junior Varsity Boys Outdoor Pentathlon!

Parker finished 1st in the 100m (12.00), 1st in the shot put (11.84m), 2nd in the high jump (1.65m), 4th in the long jump (5.38m) and 7th in the 800m (2:29.87) for a total of 2703 points!

Good luck to our Track & Field athletes at the MHSAA Provincial Championships this weekend in Winnipeg!

Our annual Last Grad Standing Thank You cards have arrived and will be going out to our staff, community members and local businesses this week.

This is the time where we want to take the opportunity to publicly recognize those who helped make our event a success. LGS is a huge undertaking that requires months of planning, dozens of volunteers, and a dedicated group of individuals to ensure it runs smoothly. Additionally, we rely on the incredibly generous donations of the Thompson community to ensure our students are fed and have prizes to work towards.

On Thursday, our Trojan Athletic Council and Spirit Squad joined forces to put on the Spirit of Sport Gym Riot!

Each year, the Spirit of Sport Award is presented to a student who embodies the spirit of sport by maintaining a positive attitude, being inclusive to everyone, participating in competitive and non-competitive sport, building others up and wanting the best for everyone.

We are proud to announce the 2025-2026 recipient: Easton Bourdon!

In addition to the Spirit of Sport Award, our student body took part in our final Grade Wars event of the year, pitting grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 against each other. After a competitive, fun and entertaining series of games, the grade 11s prevailed with 210 points! The grade 9s took second place with 190 points, and the grade 10s and 12s tied for 3rd with 150 points.

Thank you to all our Trojan Athletic Council and Spirit Squad members (staff and students) who took the time to brainstorm games, film examples and run the show!

Your 2025-2026 Zone XI AAA Track & Field Champions, the R.D. Parker Trojans!

As the only AAA school in Zone XI, the banner was a given, however, our Trojans finished with 539 points, 100 points more than 2nd place!

Of our 47 athletes, one of the largest teams we have fielded in recent memory, 46 athletes qualified for at least one event at the MHSAA Provincial Track & Field Championships in 2 weeks!

Another beautiful day yesterday for our track & field team to practice!

Sprint relay handoffs on a broom-swept, cone-curved track in the TRCC parking lot, throw practices in gravel parking lots and over lingering snow piles, time trials on local streets and indoor jump practices onto crash mats. Our track & field team may train unconventionally, but they love the sport and can't wait for the Zone Championships next week!

With the Thompson Region Aquatic Centre opening in the not-so-distant future, they have a need for lifeguards.

Becoming a lifeguard takes time and qualifications, starting with a Standard First Aid certificate. The City is offering a blended learning youth only (ages 14-18) course for $85.00 on June 5-6.

Next, students will need to begin their lifeguard training, including the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross course. Registration opens May 25, with training taking place over the summer months at Paint Lake.

Lifeguarding is an excellent job that requires top notch skills and knowledge. If you think you have what it takes, contact Deidre to learn more!

Last Grad Standing 2026, the 4th installment of the annual event, is officially in the books!

Congratulations to Mishael Oyelami, who outlasted 65 other grade 12 students over the span of nearly 5 hours to claim the title of Last Grad Standing Champion! Mishael faced off against Jake McCusker in a final two showdown in the forum, dodging Jake's throw, grabbing his own missed shot, and finishing the game with a well-aimed throw at a diving McCusker. It was an exciting finish to an incredible LGS game!

As is every year, this weekend was about more than just a game for our graduating class. For them, it was an opportunity to create a core memory, celebrating the culmination of all their hard work, surrounded by the people they have walked the halls with for many years. This celebration included, of course, the LGS game, full access to the staff room with unlimited amounts of food and drink, a highly competitive couple rounds of hide and seek in the dark, some remarkable (and some questionable) renditions of hit songs with karaoke in the forum, a Nerf gun battle in the Parker Gym, movies in the theatre, theatrical improv throughout the school in the very best of costumes, board/card games, PS5 games on a classroom projector, a ton of different games in the gyms, and finished with a delicious breakfast cooked by Chef Sehn and Mrs. MacLean.

This weekend was not possible without the countless hours of preparation from our Trojan Athletic Council, including supervisors Ms. Sim, Ms. Hoff and Mr. Paradis, and students Mia Clarkson, Cameron Murray, Sydney Power, Aiden Charron, Charity Trout, Will Mosiondz, Natalia Dudas and Elizabeth Phillips. From the first planning meeting to waving goodbye at the end of the weekend, this crew crushed it. We will make a special post recognizing our volunteers and donors soon.

What stood out this weekend was the inclusiveness of this graduating class. Students from all different backgrounds and interests shared in games and events, and we could not be more proud of how you treated one another, respected the school and brought such great energy to everything you did.

Grade 11s, we will see you in 1 year for LGS 2027!
