For many seasons West Central has welcomed opportunities to have young adults and Jr coaches on our benches to be mentored for a next generation of coaches. Earlier this summer, Cameron Olson was recognized within the Town of Sylvan Lake as an Athletic Ambassador for the years he has volunteered as a Jr Coach with minor hockey and with West Central Tigers. Congratulations Cameron 🎉

Congratulations to Cameron Olson, winner of the Youth Spark Athletic Ambassador Award ✨
Cameron has been giving back to younger athletes within Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey for many years. This past winter, Cameron committed as a Junior Assistant Coach with the West Central Tigers U13AA team. This role involved attending practices, traveling to out-of-town games, and dedicating his time to youth in our community while still playing competitive minor hockey himself.
Cameron provided not only coaching and feedback to help develop and push these players to reach their potential, but also mentorship throughout their athletic journey. He became someone the young athletes could turn to for comfort and support, relating to their experiences and highlighting the importance of mental resilience in sport.
At the end of the season, the West Central Tigers organization invites each athlete to nominate a coach who had a positive impact on their season, and Cameron received three nominations from players on the team he supported as a Junior Assistant Coach. The statements included that “Cameron always made hockey fun,” “he made sure each person was included and treated everyone equally,” and “he always knew what to say to make me feel better when I made a mistake or we lost a game.”
Cameron’s commitment to young players did not end with the hockey season. He recently volunteered his time in April, assisting the West Central Tigers program by leading on-ice skates for players aged 9–12 and promoting a fun, welcoming atmosphere.
Cameron Olson is a natural leader among young athletes in our hockey community. He consistently finds opportunities to give his time, offering encouragement and inviting feedback so others can grow as both athletes and individuals. Our community is fortunate to have a young individual so motivated to share his leadership and mentor the next generation as they grow, mature, and transition into adulthood.
