🥋 THIS WEEK AT KINGS COUNTY BJJ
This week we’re continuing to build skills that connect together—from controlling the stand-up battle to recognizing the right time to attack, transition, or take control.
🔴 MONDAY — NO-GI
Kids & Youth
We’re continuing our work on stand-up and takedowns, helping students become more comfortable starting on their feet and learning how to safely and confidently bring the match to the ground.
Adults
We’ll be working the snap down, exploring different variations and the finishes that become available depending on our opponent’s reaction.
🎯 Monday’s Focus: Aggression & Control
Learning to apply pressure with purpose, take initiative, and maintain control once we earn the position.
⚫ FRIDAY — GI
Kids & Youth
We’ll be learning how to attack and break down the turtle position, creating openings and establishing control instead of letting our opponent stay defensive.
Adults
We’re working on proper guard pulling and sweeps, looking at how our approach changes depending on the scenario and reaction we’re given.
🎯 Friday’s Focus: Timing
Not just knowing what technique to use—but recognizing when the opportunity is there.

Coaching, to me, is about impact that lasts far beyond the mats.
It’s about the moments when a student finally starts to believe in themselves after weeks of doubt. It’s about the quiet breakthroughs no one else sees, and the confidence that slowly builds over time until it begins to change how someone carries themselves in everyday life.
And years from now, whether someone is still training with us or life has taken them somewhere else, I hope they can look back and truly feel that they were seen, supported, and genuinely cared for by me — Coach Karmen.
I hope they remember that they were never just another student on the mats. They were part of something meaningful. A place where they were encouraged, challenged, and helped to grow in ways that went far beyond jiu-jitsu.
Because at the end of the day, medals fade, belts change, and promotions come and go. But the impact we have on people — the confidence we help build, the resilience we help shape, the belief we help restore — that stays with them long after they leave the mats.
That’s what I want Kings County BJJ to represent.
A place where people don’t just improve their jiu-jitsu, but discover strength in themselves they didn’t know they had. A place where they feel like they belong, where they’re supported through the hard days, and where their growth as a person matters just as much as their progress as an athlete.
That’s the kind of coach I want to be.
And that’s the kind of room I want us to build together — one that changes people long after they’ve left the mats. 🥋

🥋 THIS WEEK AT KINGS COUNTY BJJ
This week we’re putting a big focus on takedowns, control, and escapes — building skills that carry over into every part of Jiu-Jitsu.
MONDAY • AUGUST 17 • NO-GI
🔴 Kids/Youth
We’re deep diving into the single-leg takedown — learning the entry, control, and finish.
🔴 Adults
We’ll also be breaking down the single leg, spending the class developing the details needed to make it a reliable part of your takedown game.
FRIDAY • AUGUST 21 • GI
⚪ Kids/Youth
Snap down → Back take
Learning how to bring an opponent down, get behind them, and establish control.
⚪ Adults
It’s an escape-focused night. We’ll be working our way out of three major positions:
🥋 Side Control
🥋 Kesa Gatame
🥋 Chair Mount / Technical Mount
Whether you’re brand new or already training, these are the kinds of fundamental skills that build confidence and make your overall Jiu-Jitsu better.
New people are always welcome. Come try a class, bring a friend, and see what Kings County BJJ is about.
