Just a "quick 4-block walk"? Let's look at the actual reality on the ground.

​Google Maps shows it's 11 blocks (from the 5 Corners site we are proposing) to the hyper-congested SSAP where a child was recently struck by a car crossing the road after practice. Forcing families into 30+ minute vehicle commutes to Cloverdale, Richmond, or Burnaby just because the only allowed local option is not their cup of tea destroys the vision of freedom of choice and a walkable city.

​The facts:

​1️⃣ The 15-Year Monopoly:

​We have the FOI (Freedom of Information) documents from the City of Surrey proving how smaller soccer options like ours get systematically boxed out at SSAP by those who consider them "their fields". Families deserve real choice, not a forced single-club system.

​2️⃣ The "Turf is Being Banned" Myth:

​FIFA doesn't plan to ban turf (the Whitecaps play on it). It's only for top-level matches where grass is mandated. In our wet climate, grass turns to unplayable mud. Municipalities nationwide document that turf yields up to 4–5 times the usable hours compared to grass. Let's not forget that White Rock is the only city in Metro Vancouver without a single turf field.

🏫 ​During school hours, a much-needed upgrade to the gravel field.

⚽️ After school, a vibrant lower town-center sports hub featuring Whitecaps-supported training, free Semiahmoo First Nations youth programming, local jobs, and a major boost for our local economy—where parents can easily shop White Rock businesses within walking distance before, during, and after practices and games running all week long.

​With over 75 local families and businesses having already signed the petition, and growing fast, this is an open door for the City of White Rock and the SD36 Capital Projects team to step up and build a massive community win without the red tape.

​Don't let this $650,000 fully funded FIFA World Cup Legacy mini-pitch go to a city already spoiled with multi-million-dollar facilities.
