TOURNAMENT AWARDS 🏆

Miles Pauli - .600/.619/1.269 11 hits

Top Pitchers

Josh Hotell – 7.1 IP, 1 BB, 8 K’s, 1.909 ERA

Top Defensive Player – Dawson Messenger
MVP – Preston Giroday

Not sure what it is, but I (Coach Doug) always get a little giddy when I see that big neon sign in the sky “Sam’s Town”! A few new/old faces joining us for this trip as we welcomed back Seth Krahn and Enzo De Palma into the squad with Josh Hotell, Trevor Davies and Miles Pauli making their 13U AAA debuts. The formula for success for this team was pretty simple: Smash baseballs and throw strikes! It seems like the boys bought in.

Day 1
Game 1 was a 12-0 thrashing with Taylor and De Palma combining for a NO-NO.

Day 2 started with the boys putting up an 11 spot in the first inning! We cruised to an 18-3 win with Hotell and Krahn on the bump. The boys battled hard to finish pool play 4-0, with a good 7-5 win over a well coached MTBA Dawgs team. Another two W’s for the day.

Day 3 and a semi-final match up with the CBA Marlins. Taylor on the bump and he shoved!  5 innings, 8K’s and only 2 hits. The offfence backed him up with 8 runs on 10 hits, including a mammoth HR from Preston Giroday. Goal #1 achieved, make it to the Final!

The final would be a rematch with MTBA, and the bats stayed hot as we put up a quick 5 spot in the 1st. Coxford got the ball in the final and breezed through the top of their order. He didn’t fair so well in the 2nd and for the first time all tournament the Bullpen were behind! Josh Hotell came on in relief and threw a gem for 4 1/3 innings, reaching the tournament max innings when he completed the 6th. The boys continued to barrel balls and answered back with 2 runs in the 2nd and 5 more in the 3rd. De Palma got the ball in the 7th and got the save! This team was the class of the tournament💪

Game 1
Bullpen got off to a slow start as it was a close game for the first four innings, until Bullpen blew the game open in the top of the fifth inning.  F. Gretton led the way for Bullpen with 3 hits and 3 RBIs.  C.Robertson, J. Hahn, R. Pelly, and C. Jackson all had two hits contributing to the offensive outburst.  It was truly offense by committee with M. Beaune, E. Pokorny, A.Rogachevsky, and H.Francis all getting one hit.

Game 2
Game 2 for the boys was a tough one against a top 5 Majors team in the nation.  It was a great game to learn from and build on. R. Pelly, C. Robertson and C. Zweep all had one hit in the loss.

Game 3
The boys bounced back in the morning game the next day with an explosive third inning.  C. Robertson, R. Pelly, H. Francis and T. Lima all had two hits to lead the offence.  Every single player in the lineup had a hit with J. Hahn, C. Jackson, A. Rogachevsky, F. Gretton, E. Pokorny, and M.Beaune all getting hits.

Game 5 – Semi-Final
The squad had to face the top 5 Majors team in the nation again. The boys showed they had something to prove and “punched back” making LVR Maloff grind in this rematch. Hayden Francis got the start and led the way with pinpoint control keeping LVR Maloff off balance for 4 and 1/3 innings. The boys jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and held the lead until the 5th inning. Despite giving up the lead, they regained the lead in the top of the 6th but unfortunately were not able to hang on for the win.  Despite it being a disappointing loss, the boys made themselves and Bullpen proud by competing against a top team in the nation.

Thursday: The 12u group was extremely fortunate to be hosted by College Of Southern Nevada, where we had a very productive practice. Both teams were rolling into the tournament with confidence after a clean practice at CSN. 🙏🏼

Friday
Game 1 vs Torrence Bolts
Naiyan Gill had the ball and cruised through 3 quality innings only giving up 1 run. Finn Simpson took relief and was lights out for 2 innings stranding base runners in both frames. The offense sparked in the first inning with Kieran Walker-Kemp getting his weekend started early with a huge inside the park Homerun, and ultimately uniting the group to a 9-1 W in Game 1.

Swipe left for the rest of the game recaps! 👈

It was a learning experience for this talented group, having to persevere time after time with hurt bodies and pitchers innings limit, having to play the extra morning game was crucial.

12AA would end up 4-2-1 and the pitching staff combing for a 3.2 ERA
This group looks to get at it again come the New Year, with sights out towards the Cactus League, and Arizona.

GOLD BRACKET: 2nd place 🥈

Game #1: 7-10 L
Bullpen got on the board early, with E. Newton knocking in the first run on a fielders choice. J. Noga and HDF both had singles in the 2nd inning to take the lead 6-3. The boys ran wild on the bases with 7 stolen bags. ZT put up a 6 spot in the 3rd and we trailed the rest of the game.

Game #2: 16-5 W
C. Krpan puts on a strong contact performance with 3 hits in 3 at bats. Bullpen broke the game open in the top of the 2nd inning, hungry for a win after the 1st game. Bullpen scored 5 runs on 4 hits to take the lead 6-1.

Game #3: 7-6 W
Nail biter! Bullpen trailed as many as 5 runs to the NSA Stars on Sunday. L. VanderEnde singled to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th! P. Stanford battled on the mound for us allowing 2 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 2. E. Newton went 2-2 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Noga, R. Stanford, VanderEnde and HDF all drove in a run to contribute to the win!

Game #4: 10-5 W
R. Stanford helped us add to our early lead with a triple, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Bullpen scored 5 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 5th. E. Newton started on the bump giving up 3 hits with 0 runs over 3 innings, walking zero, which really set the tone for the Bullpen.

Game #5: 2-10 L
The boys had a challenge on their hands, matching up against the strongest team we’ve seen so far. The Bullpen leaned to P. Stanford on the bump, giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run. This was a hard fought battle for the boys, and I know they can’t wait to get back on the field again to play LVR in the next tournament.
