The Summerside Western Capitals are pleased to announce the signing of defenceman Lincoln Waugh.

A native of Summerside, the 2006-born defenceman returns to the Western Capitals after spending the past two seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL. Waugh appeared in 82 games, including regular season and playoffs, during his two seasons in Halifax.

Before making the jump to the QMJHL, Waugh spent two seasons with his hometown Western Capitals. In 95 career games, including regular season and playoffs, he recorded 11 goals, 34 assists and 45 points, while adding 81 penalty minutes.

Originally drafted by the Western Capitals in the 2022 MHL Draft, Waugh was also selected by the Cape Breton Eagles in the third round of the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 23 games with Cape Breton before being traded to Halifax in August 2024.

Now, Lincoln returns home with valuable major junior experience under his belt and is expected to be an important leader for the Western Capitals this season.

🎓 ICYMI, GRADUATING PLAYER SPOTLIGHT 🏒

As he concludes his junior hockey career, the Summerside Western Capitals are proud to congratulate Alexandre Guy on his commitment to continue his hockey and academic journey at Ontario Tech University, where he will suit up for the Ridgebacks in U Sports.

A native of Blainville, Quebec, Alexandre joined the Western Capitals ahead of the 2025–26 season after spending time in the QMJHL with the Val-d'Or Foreurs and Cape Breton Eagles. Originally selected by Val-d'Or in the fifth round of the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft, the rights to the right winger was acquired by Summerside from the Amherst Ramblers in September 2025.

In his first season with the Western Capitals, Alexandre made an immediate impact, recording 29 goals and 20 assists for 49 points in 71 games across regular season, playoff, and Centennial Cup action, while adding 90 penalty minutes, and a National silver medal.

Congratulations, Alexandre! Thank you for your commitment and contributions to the Western Capitals organization. We wish you all the best as you continue your hockey and academic career with Ontario Tech!

📍 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: DOUG MACLEAN

We're celebrating former Summerside Western Capitals players & coaches who went on to compete in the NHL and AHL.

A Summerside native, Doug MacLean became the first head coach of the Western Capitals after the organization adopted its current name in 1981. During his three seasons behind the bench, MacLean led the Western Capitals to our first league championship in 1984.

MacLean went on to coach at the AHL and NHL level, including serving as head coach of the Florida Panthers, leading the club to the 1996 Stanley Cup Final. He later became the first head coach and general manager of the expansion Columbus Blue Jackets.

We're proud to celebrate the people who helped build the Western Capitals legacy and went on to make an impact at the highest levels of hockey.

The Summerside Western Capitals have acquired the rights to goaltender Sam Madgett from the Miramichi Timberwolves in exchange for forward Cam Griffin.

Madgett, an 18-year-old goaltender from Stillwater Lake, Nova Scotia, stands 6'3" and joins the Capitals after spending the 2025–26 season in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads and in the AJHL with the Lloydminster Bobcats. He was originally selected by Halifax in the 10th round of the 2023 QMJHL Entry Draft, and by the Pictou County Crushers in the 5th round of the 2023 MHL Draft.

Griffin was selected by the Capitals earlier this year with one of the club's territorial selections. We wish Cam all the best as he continues his hockey career in Miramichi.
