Yesterday morning the York Equestrian family had to say goodbye to our resident mascot and the face of our program, Nevy.

It’s never easy saying goodbye when the time comes, but this loss hurts just a little bit more. Never was bought by John and Mary almost 26 years ago and left us yesterday at the mature age of 32.  Never was without question the most familiar face in the barn.

Nevy had a personality like no other. Cheeky, intelligent and always up to mischief. Mary always called him, “the original naughty one”. Those who have been with us for a while know we always said he was part human because of how smart he was. He kept us on our toes right to the end. Before the stall head guards were put in, Nevy’s stall always stood out from the others with all the extra stall latches. He was always finding ways to escape and roam the barn the second no one was looking. Hearing someone yell, “Nevy’s loose!!”, was practically a daily occurrence.

No one was safe around him when it came to his generous kisses. If you were ever around him with a white shirt, you were asking for trouble. In fact, it was quite easy to tell if you were anywhere near him because the large hay cubed stained kiss was hard to miss. And to be quite honest, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Never leaves behind an incredible legacy from a competitive career across North America with a myriad of ribbons to countless hours teaching camp kids patience and horsemanship, one small hand at a time. He wasn’t just a horse who happened to be with us for 26 years, he was woven into the very fabric of who we are at York Equestrian. There will never be another Never. A piece of all of us leaves with him.

Thank you Never for every smile, every slobbery haycube kiss, every laugh and even every frustration you caused us. You gave us 26 years of unforgettable memories that we will carry with us forever. We love you more than words can ever say. Until we meet again.

Say hi to the too many missed faces for us.❤️
