💫Teacher Spotlight 💫 Cheryl is amazed at how even five minutes of moving and breathing on the mat can alter her perception of herself and the world. She began exploring various styles of yoga in 1995, and completed a 200-hour Akhanda Yoga Teacher Training with Yogi Vishvketu in 2008. This experience inspired her to seek more joy in her life – both on and off the mat. Around the same time she undertook the challenge of a silent 10-day Vipassana Meditation Retreat, which had a profound effect on both her yoga and her work in holistic wellness.
In recent years, Cheryl has been drawn to explore Yin Yoga (200-hour teacher training with Stephanie Calhoun) and Restorative Yoga (40-hour teacher training with Andrea Peloso).
These practices leave her feeling more kind hearted to herself and the beings around her. Through time in nature, snuggles with her cutie cats and daily walks with her dog Cookie, she strives to cultivate present moment awareness. Cheryl is grateful for the opportunity to share the gifts of slowing down, becoming still and moving inward.
This Fall, starting September 9, Cheryl is teaching Yin on Monday mornings.

Gather with Andrea this Fall for a 4-week beginner series and begin where you are!
Whether you’ve never stepped onto a yoga mat, are returning to your practice after some time away, or simply want to revisit the foundations, this four-week Introduction to Yoga series is an invitation to begin again—with curiosity, compassion, and a beginner’s mindset.
Over four weeks, we’ll explore the building blocks of a yoga practice in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Together, we’ll learn the fundamentals of breathwork (pranayama), body awareness, guided meditation, and basic yoga postures (asanas), with an emphasis on alignment and finding variations that work for your unique body.
Each week will build gently on the last, helping you develop a deeper understanding of the practice while becoming more comfortable on your mat.
Throughout the series, we’ll explore:
Basic breathwork and pranayama techniques
Fundamental yoga postures and alignment
Variations to support your individual needs
Body awareness and mindful movement
Guided meditation
This series is for absolute beginners, returning students, or anyone who simply wants to slow down and revisit the basics.
Because there is no perfect time to begin. Every day, every hour, and every breath offers us a brand-new opportunity to start again.
By the end of the four weeks, our hope is that you’ll leave with a greater understanding of yoga, a deeper connection to your breath and body, and the confidence and knowledge to step into and participate in a yoga class with greater ease.
Come exactly as you are.
Bring your curiosity.
And give yourself permission to begin again.

Join Darla each week this Fall for Mobility & Stability yoga, starting September 9!
***Only online spaces are available as in-studio registration is full***
In Mobility & Stability Yoga we will learn how to establish the foundation and strength of poses and pose variations (stability), while we learn to extend and evolve through lengthening and breathing (mobility). Finding the balance between mobility and stability is vital to sustaining a life-long practice in a healthy aging body. If you are new to yoga or a long-time student, come join the fun to help you navigate the joys that come with growing into an aging body.
These classes are suitable for active beginners and continuing practitioners who are ok with weight-bearing and floor-based postures (such as hands and knees, downward facing dog, and prone (belly down) postures).

Two ways to Flow with Christie this Fall 🌿
Looking for a practice that moves with your breath, builds warmth, and leaves you feeling grounded and energized? Christie offers two Flow-based classes, each with a slightly different rhythm.
FLOW YOGA
Flow Yoga nourishes all the nooks and crannies of your body that need some love. Poses flow together in small, simple sequences while mindfully syncing movement and breath.
We'll finish with breathwork and/or a short meditation to ease you into the rest of your day with calm and vitality.
FLOW & YIN YOGA
Flow & Yin offers a sweet balance of dynamic movement and deeper release. The class begins with a Flow practice, weaving fundamental and more powerful postures together while connecting movement and breath.
The pace then slows for Yin, with longer-held, floor-based postures that invite lengthening, softening, and release through the body.
So which one is for you?
Choose Flow Yoga if you’re looking for a continuous, breath-led practice with movement, warmth, and energy. Saturday’s studio class is nearly full, with online space still available.
Choose Flow & Yin if you’d like the movement of Flow paired with time to slow down, lengthen, and settle into longer-held postures.
Both classes are welcoming for beginners and continuing practitioners, and Christie creates an inclusive space where all bodies are welcomed and accepted.
Offered in person at Embody studio located in the west end of St. John’s at 10 Forbes Street or online via Zoom.
New to us? Get started with a Discovery Pass.
Returning? Join with a Membership or one of our pass options, space permitting, including Drop-in, 5-Class, or 10-Class Pass.

Our Fall session of Yin Yoga with Cheryl is moving from Wednesdays back to Mondays, starting Sept 14!
Gather for a practice that uses longer holds designed to enhance joint, bone and connective tissue health, while focusing on the breath to help relax the body into the postures.
Yin yoga helps to improve overall mobility and range of motion, specifically in the hips, pelvis, and spine. A complementary practice to any strength building or cardio exercise, as well as an active flow yoga practice, yin yoga can also greatly benefit those recovering from illness or injury.
With practice, you will notice postural improvement, greater body awareness, increased ease of movement and overall balance in the body’s energy system. Yin is accessible to all levels of experience and is suitable for the beginner and continuing practitioner.
