TOMORROW, RUBY K STEPS ON THE PLATFORM AT 78 YEARS STRONG 👏
Ruby walked into my gym at 69 years old and started lifting.
Tomorrow she competes at the North American Powerlifting Federation Championship right here in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on an international stage. I’ll be right there coaching her in her corner.
This is her from our last deadlift session at the gym, a few days out from stepping on the platform. Still showing up. Still pulling. Still all business.
Most women think strength training has an age limit. Ruby’s proof there isn’t one.
Good luck tomorrow, Ruby. We are all so proud of you. You are an inspiration to every woman who thinks it’s too late to start.
Go get it, Rubinator. 💪
Drop a comment and wish Ruby good luck tomorrow 👏

Dana putting in some beautiful paused squats! 👏
When Dana first started training with me about six months ago, getting a barbell on her back wasn’t even an option. Her shoulders and upper body were so tight that she simply couldn’t get into the position.
On top of that, we spent a lot of time working on squat depth, mobility, and building confidence under the bar.
Fast forward to today, and here she is performing quality paused squats with good bar position and solid depth.
Progress like this doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from showing up, trusting the process, and putting in the work week after week—even when things feel challenging.
I’m really proud of how far you’ve come, Dana. Keep showing up, keep learning, and keep getting stronger. You’re doing an awesome job! 💪
Alana putting together a smooth kettlebell complex tonight! 👏
Swing → High Pull → Sn**ch.
Kettlebell training is a fantastic way to build strength, power, coordination, grip strength, and conditioning—all while challenging your body in a different way than traditional barbell training.
At Heavy Weights Barbell Club, we love combining barbells, dumbbells, and kettlebells to help our members become stronger, more capable, and more confident lifters.
Great work tonight, Alana! Keep it up! 💪
Lynn putting in some solid paused squat work tonight.
Technique keeps getting better week after week.
Strength isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up consistently.
Proud of the work she’s putting in. 💪
Alternating single-arm kettlebell deadlifts are a simple but incredibly effective exercise for building total-body strength.
By switching hands on every rep, you’ll challenge your grip, core stability, coordination, and hip hinge mechanics while training both sides evenly. Focus on keeping your back neutral, driving through your feet, and generating the movement from your hips—not your lower back.
This is one of those exercises that looks simple, but when performed correctly, it builds a strong foundation that carries over to just about every lift.

Victoria putting in the work with a kettlebell complex. 💪
Kettlebell complexes are one of my favourite ways to build strength, power, coordination, and conditioning—all in one sequence.
This complex combines:
• Swing
• High Pull
• Sn**ch
The key is to master each movement individually first, then link them together into one smooth, powerful flow.
Kettlebells are an incredible training tool for improving athleticism, building a strong core, increasing grip strength, and developing full-body power. They’re a staple in our training because they simply work.

Kettlebell Swing - 1 Arm
One Exercise. Big Payoff 💥
If you’ve never tried single-arm kettlebell swings, you’re missing out on one of the best exercises for building real-world strength and power.
Unlike a squat, the swing is a hip hinge. The power comes from driving your hips forward explosively—not lifting the kettlebell with your arm.
Why I love them:
✅ Build explosive power through the hips and glutes
✅ Strengthen your posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, lower back)
✅ Improve core strength by resisting rotation
✅ Challenge grip strength and shoulder stability
✅ Elevate your heart rate while building strength
A few coaching tips:
• Hinge at the hips—not squat.
• Keep your back neutral and your core braced.
• Let your hips generate the power.
• Your arm is just along for the ride.
• Stand tall at the top by squeezing your glutes—not leaning backward.
The single-arm variation adds another layer by forcing your core to resist twisting, making it an incredible exercise for building strength, stability, and athleticism.
Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier weights—it’s about moving well, generating power, and building a body that’s capable.
Today’s class absolutely crushed these. 👊🔥
