Black Sheep Adventure Sports provides in-depth reviews of outdoor climbing, skiing, mountaineering and camping equipment through exhaustive field testing.

I'm a Civil Engineer, Climbing & Skiing Guide and a serious Gear J***y. After spending years using and abusing gear both recreationally and professionally a friend over at The Alpine Start turned me onto reviewing gear. The combination of my engineering background and mountain guiding experience and training allow me to critically analyze equipment and apparel to provide in-depth reviews on exhaustively tested gear.

Fresh snow in the mountains has us thinking about winter but we’re still hooked on kicking our heels up in the alpine. Is it time to start switching gears? Do we need to wax our skis already? So many decisions to be made…

The great A. Schwarzenegger once said to get to the choppa. Unfortunately, his mic didn’t pick up the rest of his enthusiastic statement which was, “so we can swim in a sweet alpine lake.”

Join us in completing Arnie’s mission this weekend.

Mount Assiniboine, colloquially known as the Matterhorn of the Rockies, is as iconic in Canada as its sister peak is in the Alps.

Rising dramatically above the surrounding landscape, both mountains have that rare combination of elegance, isolation and unmistakable silhouette that makes them instantly recognizable.

The Matterhorn may be the more famous of the two, but Assiniboine holds its own. A granite pyramid rising above glaciers, alpine meadows and the rugged wilderness of British Columbia.
