OC6 Community Clinic – Presented with the Outriggerzone Community Paddling Initiative
Join us for an evening of OC6 skills, technique, and safety as part of the Outriggerzone Community Paddling Initiative.
Volunteers are welcome to meet at 4:30 PM to help unload the trailer, rig the boats, and get everything ready for the evening. The clinic will officially begin at 5:00 PM with a land-based review of OC6 steering fundamentals, including steering theory, blade selection, reading conditions, and crew communication.
Once on the water, we'll focus on developing a stronger, more efficient stroke by working on catch, paddle pressure, and timing to build boat speed. We'll spend most of the evening in the sheltered waters of Blind Channel, with the option of venturing farther out toward the end of the session if conditions are favourable.
We'll finish the clinic with a huli drill, covering how to safely right our ultralight OC6, re-enter the canoe, and work together as a crew during a capsize. These are essential skills that every paddler should be comfortable with.
We'll have three OC6 canoes available, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to paddle and practice. Priority will be given to SPC members first.
Cost: By donation ($20–30 recommended). Donations can be sent by e-transfer to [email protected] and help support Outriggerzone Community Paddling Initiative future paddling programs and equipment.
Please come dressed to paddle and swim. You'll be getting in the water during the huli drills and we can put on more neoprene before tipping. Bring a towel and a change of dry clothes for after the clinic.
Whether you're new to OC6 or looking to refine your technique, this is a great opportunity to improve your skills, build confidence, and spend an evening on the water with the Squamish paddling community.
