Last week brought in some of the biggest swell I’ve experienced on the west coast in quite awhile. There really is nothing like the rawness and beauty of our coastline especially in the winter months. I’ll take the wetsuit, frigid temps and empty line-ups any day of the week over warm, tropical surf.

If you’re looking for a routine to help improve stability and strength throughout your core and shoulders then give this one a try:

*Complete 5-6 rounds at a flow pace with a 90-120 second rest in-between rounds*

-Tall kneeling pallof press x 8 reps/side
-Archer push-ups x 8 reps/side
-Overhead KB static hold x 30-45 sec

We experienced some wild conditions on the west coast this week. Despite the monsoon, we scored some great surf. There really is no better feeling than being out amongst the elements and raw Mother Nature. Bring on the winter storms.

Strong glutes are the key to improved performance and injury prevention in almost every sport or activity. Here are three exercises that will help to improve your overall glute strength and get those muscles firing:

1) Goblet squats with a resistance band

2) Single-leg glute bridges on a BOSU ball

3) Reverse lunge with knee drive (front foot elevated)

Today’s workout: Endurance focused while incorporating some speed and explosiveness.

1) 40 min trail run w/ 8 rounds of 30 second pick-ups to 85-90% max effort.

2) 8 rounds of battle ropes with dumbbell push-ups.

15 second alternating waves
15 second side-to-side waves
10 dumbbell push-ups (slow down, pause, fast up)

Rest 90-120 seconds

We’ve had some wild weather here on the west coast lately. Embrace it and you’ll get rewarded once in awhile.

There is definitely some truth to this illustration. It pretty much pertains to all types of activity. So whatever motivates you, just get out there, put in the work and get s**t done. Your brain will thank you afterwards.

The great outdoors - there are countless benefits of getting outside and enjoying the best of what nature has to offer. In today’s technological world, our brains are bombarded with endless information. Getting outside and exercising amongst nature is the single best way to truly disconnect from the world and give our minds a chance to recharge.
