I’m writing this from bed as I dive into season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel…ice machine pumping away, a cold coffee beside the bed that I’ll likely sip all day, and fresh air pouring in like medicine.

Last night, while the meds kept me awake and the pain came in sharp little waves, I wrote down these moments (or “lessons”) that have shown up for me over the last 4 days as I recover in my healing den. I thought maybe some of you moving through your own seasons of rebuilding might resonate…or even better, get the same reminders I needed.

For those of you who aren’t sure what’s going on here, lol: I recently had my ACL reconstructed—rebuilt with my patellar tendon—plus a meniscus repair. There was drilling involved (tunnels in my bones!) to anchor the new ligament…And on day 2 of recovery I was blessed with a blood clot LOL. Now I’m six weeks in a brace and off the leg while it all heals. Recovery started off…challenging…and day by day it’s getting easier—as these things typically do with time.

I know this sounds weird, but I really (oddly) cherish seasons like this. They gift us SO much: grit, resilience, forced rest, inwards reflection, community…and RANGE. I just LIVE for range of the human experience. I love it even on the days I hate it. You know what I mean?

Anyways. The major lesson for all of us—if you’re open or willing to receive it—is this: you can’t abandon yourself and build your dream life. You have to pause when your body needs you to pause. You have to use your voice to advocate for the dream you’re building. You have to receive help when your healing requires help. You have to rest, restore, and rebuild if you want to build BEYOND the place you started.

Your whole dream relies on you—the business, the life, the relationships, the travels, the wealth. It’s all you.

The brand is you.

Sometimes the hardest of part of being an entrepreneur is seeing your own gaps 👀

Because the more you DO your work, the deeper IN IT you get—and the harder it becomes to see your own work clearly.

What is my signature process?
How DO I do what I do!?
What are my frameworks?

I was too close to see it...too in it...too busy pouring into everyone else’s brands to sit in the chair I put my clients in.

So I did the scariest, most necessary thing I could think of: I stripped my business naked. (Talk about revealing, lol.)

I put down everything I’d been doing—every offer, every process, every “this is just how I do it”—so I could finally see it differently.

Then I started to put the pieces back together—one by freakin’ one 😅 Some of it went back exactly where it was...but lot of it didn’t.

And that’s the bravest thing you can do when you’re ready to grow: get willing to see your work with new eyes. Because you can’t fix what you can’t see…and you can’t see clearly when you’re stuck in the daily grind of running your business 🙃

To grow you’ve got to PAUSE what you’re doing, SEE what you couldn’t see…then build with new information.
