MEET COACH TARA

1. What got you into coaching/fitness, and what keeps you passionate about it?

Fitness has always been a big part of my life. I started gymnastics when I was five and never really stopped moving! Soccer, rugby, volleyball, team handball, dancing, rock climbing, taekwon-do, cycling, weightlifting...I’ve tried a bit of everything—and been injured A LOT along the way. I love challenging myself and helping others discover their own passion for movement, even when injuries mean finding a different way to move.

2. What’s your specialty or the class you love teaching most?

Pilates Reformer Jumpboard

3. What’s one thing members are always surprised to learn about you?

I am a black belt in taekwon-do.

4. What does “Raise the Bar” mean to you as a coach?

It’s where people come to challenge themselves, cheer each other on, and discover that their “bar” might be a little higher than they thought.

5. Outside the studio, what are you into? (hobbies, family, guilty pleasures)

Discovering new adventures—mostly epic playgrounds—around Edmonton and area with my 6-year-old son, Armin. Staying active with my husband, Dwayne, and our German Shepherd, Loki. By day, I’m the Communications Manager at Alberta Conservation Association. When it’s time to slow down, you’ll find me at the movies or theatre, reading, tackling a jigsaw puzzle, or putting together photobooks of all those adventures.

6. Anything else you’d like to add?

Honour the body, mind, and soul you have today. Yesterday’s work shows up in how you move, think, and feel right now. You’re not who you were yesterday, and you won’t be the same tomorrow. Be grateful for today’s version of you; she worked hard to get here.

Tara has been with us since the very beginning of RTB. We are proud and happy to have her Fridays!

Meet Laurie one of our founding members✨

What’s changed the most about you since you started at RTB — physically, mentally, or both?

I would say both. I have become stronger physically and mentally.

2. What’s your fav thing about being a RTB member?

2 things actually…there are so many classes to choose from and the community including the coaches.

3. What’s a moment at RTB you’ll never forget?

Watching my sister deadlift her PR💕
Watching others successes is so exciting too.

4. What would you tell someone who’s on the fence about starting? Or someone who’s new and nervous?

You start where you’re at. Everyone is super welcoming and supportive. No judging here!!!

5. Why do you keep coming back, year after year?

I’ve gone through some things since starting at RTB and they accepted me where I was at through it all.
Also my daughter is one of the owners😆

6.. What’s your favorite class and why?

This has changed as I’ve aged. Currently it’s Forever Fit. This class covers all areas of fitness and you work as hard as you want/can or not.

Thank you Laurie Bell for all your support❤️✨

Meet Nancy- one of our Founding Members

1. What’s changed the most about you since you started at RTB — physically, mentally, or both?

Even though I’m 10 yrs older than when I started with the gym, I know I’m so much stronger physically and mentally. I have so much more awareness of my body, my core, my breathing. I’m not bothered about taking “me time” at the gym and I’m not scared to try something that I might fail at.

2. What’s your fav thing about being a RTB member?

All of the people I’ve met and all of the opportunities to try different classes and different coaching styles. I love connecting with people of all different ages, at different life stages. It’s so interesting and inspiring to see others showing up for themselves

3. What’s a moment at RTB you’ll never forget?

I have chronic lymphoma and had a time that I needed chemo and radiation to treat a tumor close to my knee. I had very limited mobility in my knee post treatment. The day that I could finally sit down on my knees all the way was a realization of how the consistency of showing up to the variety of classes at RTB had helped me to get to this milestone.

4. What would you tell someone who’s on the fence about starting? Or someone who’s new and nervous?

Everybody who goes to the gym had their first day too. Nobody’s watching you as much as you maybe think they are. Just show up for yourself, as you are and do your best. There’s no competition for me with anyone else. You’re winning just by getting to class. You’ll never regret putting the time in for yourself.

5. Why do you keep coming back, year after year?

It’s just part of my life, my routine. When I’m away on vacation or ill I honestly start having some FOMO. It’s just a safe space for me where I get to socialize and do something good for myself. It’s also been a place for me to let a stressful day at work go or start my day with some great energy and movement before going into a busy work day.

5. What’s your favorite class and why?

I’ve grown to love Strong and Yoga but my #1 will always be Pilates. I may also love a loud, fun Barre class now and then!

We love you Nancy and are so proud of all you have achieved!
