THE PILLARS is back this September in Sherwood Park.

The Pillars is a free, all ages celebration of hip hop culture, bringing together dancers, DJs, MCs, artists, youth, families, and the wider community for two days of movement, music, competition, learning, and connection.

Friday, September 4
Dancefusion Academy of Dance

Friday is about community. Join us for workshops and open cyphers where dancers can learn, train, exchange ideas, and connect before the main event.

Saturday, September 5
Broadmoor Lake Park, Sherwood Park

Saturday is the main event, with battles, music, demonstrations, cyphers, and hip hop culture happening throughout the day.

BATTLES + PRIZES

• Open Styles Battle, $500 prize
Dancers from different styles come together and compete through freestyle movement and musicality.

• Breaking Battle, $500 prize
Breaking takes centre stage with dancers bringing their creativity, foundation, musicality, power, and individual style to the floor.

• Youth Dance Your Style, $150 prize
Our under 18 dancers can choose the dance style they want to represent and be judged within that style. Our DJ will do their best to make half of each battle reflect the styles chosen by the dancers, giving youth a chance to show what they do best while still responding to the music in the moment.

But The Pillars is about much more than competition.

Throughout the event we will be celebrating the wider culture of hip hop through DJing, MCing, cyphers, demonstrations, workshops, and community participation.

The goal of The Pillars is to create a space where experienced artists can share what they have built, emerging artists can develop, young people can see a place for themselves in the culture, and people who have never experienced hip hop up close can come see what it is all about.

It is also about strengthening the scene here in Alberta. By bringing artists and communities together, we create new connections, share knowledge, support local artists, and give the next generation opportunities to participate and lead.

The Pillars has been designated an Alberta Culture Days 2026 Celebration Site, and we are proud to be bringing this celebration of hip hop culture to Sherwood Park.
