Friday, August 14th- Day 6 in Halifax

We started off the morning with a 10am exciting game against Quebec. Unfortunately we couldn’t pull off the win in the quarters losing 6-4. From there, me, the kids, mom and Greg went to Peelers Potatoe truck for haddock fish and chips. I still have to say my favorite fish and chips are from The Old Fish Factory in Lunenburg, and the food truck in Peggys Cove would be a close second.

After lunch, we hit the outlet malls again to hit the remainder of stores we didn’t get to, then went back to the Greenfoot Arena for a 4pm game vs PEI, winning 21-2.

Then we went back to the Air B & B and got ready for supper, going down to the boardwalk with my cousin Chelsey and JB for supper at the Waterfront Warehouse. Julia & JB had the most amazing lobster poutine ever in a garlic sauce! And Blake got to hold a live lobster!

Then Julia, Blake, Greg and myself decided to take the ferry ride over to Dartmouth and back to take in the night scenery for our last night on the Halifax boardwalk. Greg treated us to some Beavertails which we took home to save for tomorrow, and we ended the night with one last stop to Cows. Me and Julia decided to go with the white chocolate raspberry ice cream, Julia’s in a bowl, mine in a chocolate dipped waffle cone.

The ferry ride was another file in the core memories!

We still have one full day left tomorrow as we don’t have to be at the airport till 7pm, and boy do we have a fun day planned!

Starting with the B gold medal game against Nova Scotia at 10am!

Thursday, August 13th- Day 5 in Halifax

Today we had an early morning game against the First Nations, and won 12-5. Harrison scored his first ever goal at Nationals at this game! And of course, mom missed recording it, but it all worked out as we got the amazing live stream replay footage!

After the game, I took Julia and Blake to Lunenburg to explore where the Bluenose ship on the dime is usually docked, but two years in a row and we have not been successful in seeing the ship! So a pick with a fake dime had to do.

I had a tasty fish and chip lunch at The Old Fish Factory (with the BEST fish batter ever!) and the kids had chicken fingers and fries.

From Lunenburg, we took the 20 minute drive to Ovens Provincial Park, and I took them in the rain to explore the caves. The tide was low and there was no wind, so unfortunately they didn’t get to see what it’s like as the waves come into the caves, but still a highlight of the trip so far!

From Ovens, we took the hour and half drive back to Halifax, and met my cousin at the Outlet mall and then went over to the Mic Mac Mall, and then to one of the best restaurants in Darmouth in my opinion, the Mic Mac Bar & Grill, where me and the kids all had the beef melt (me and Julia had the Caesar salad as a side, Blake the fries) and then headed back to the Air B and B to visit with my brother and his family.

The U15 boys are in the quarter finals tomorrow starting at 10am vs Team Quebec. Let’s go Saskatchewan!!

Wednesday, August 12th - Day 4 in Halifax

We started off the day with some shopping at the Halifax Shopping Centre, then went for lunch at Acadian Fish & Chips, which had THEE BEST lobster roll I’ve had yet, and the kids shared a cheese pizza.

We knew we had a tough game against Team Ontario, and came out strong in the first period scoring the first goal, and keeping them 2-1, but it went downhill from there with the final score being 19-3.

We then travelled back to the Air B & B and my cousin cut Blake’s hair, then we went to the boardwalk for the rest of the evening to do some more shopping. I had another delicious supper at Madura K-Food, a Korean restaurant in the Salt Yard, with a delicious bbq pork Japchae (sweet potatoes noodles), bought some salt water taffy in a variety of flavours, and capped off the night with some chocolate dipped waffle cones from Cows with Canadian Maple ice cream.

To bed early as we have a 8:30 Halifax time game vs the First Nations, which is 5:30 Sask time!

Tuesday, August 11th- Day 3 in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Today marked Game 1 of Nationals, with an important game against New Brunswick. Unfortunately, we didn’t come out strong missing passing and not setting up plays, and took way too many penalties (granted the reffing was a bit one sided), and took a loss 2-9.

After the game and visiting with Harrison briefly, we came back to our Air B & B in downtown Halifax, and walked downtown and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening on the Halifax Boardwalk.

We enjoyed some macrons from Crème, and were able to squeeze in a reservation at The Bicycle Thief, which was absolutely amazingly, tasty food! I had the crab stuffed ravioli with shrimp in a limoncello sauce, my kids had the beef and brisket burger with fries, mom had the pistachio honey-crusted Atlantic salmon with roasted potatoes and green beans, and my brother Greg had the lobster linguine, with a butterscotch caramel cake with pecans he shared with us. 100% recommend making a reservation at The Bicycle Thief, I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on that menu!

After supper, we strolled the boardwalk and bought some things at the Sea House store, and scoped out some other places we want to try for supper and desserts, while taking in the beautiful scenery of the harbour. We even saw a cruise ship sailing out to the Atlantic!

Then we made the trek back up the steep hill to our Air B & B.

And now, to bed as it’s a tough game tomorrow against Team Ontario!

Monday, August 10th - Day 2 in Nova Scotia

We started off the morning with walking downtown Halifax, blowing some money a Lululemon, and had a very tasty lunch at The Stubborn Goat.

Me and Julia decided to rent a scooter to drive back to our Air B & B, then ventured on to enjoy the sun at beautiful Rainbow Haven Beach with our family.

From the beach, we drove the winding road to Peggys Cove, first stopping for the freshest, tastiest fish and chips ever, with a delicious side of coleslaw at Peggys Cove Connivence & Dairy Bar- a MUST stop for food at Peggys Cove!

We met up with our family at Peggys Cove to end the day watching the breath-taking sunset and relaxed listening to the sound of the waves crashing into the rocks.

Julia, Blake and I had to stop again at the Peggys Cove Convenience & Dairy bar to cap the night off with some ice cream!

Day 2 was a day to file in the core memories!

Sunday, August 9th- Day 1 in Nova Scotia:

We arrived at my cousins house in Owls Head Harbour at about 11:30pm Halifax time Saturday night and toured her beautiful, waterfront home. The next morning, we woke up and enjoyed a delicious pancake, hashbrowns, bacon and fresh fruit breakfast, and watched crabs swim near the wharf.

We then drove to Martinique Beach and enjoyed this beautiful gem of a beach on the coast- a beach that went on for miles! We stopped at the cutest hot dog/smokie stand that the sweetest local lady was selling, and enjoyed some quality time with our family.

From the beach, we checked into our beautiful Air B & B, and got ready for supper and drove down to the Halifax Boardwalk to enjoy supper together at The Cable Wharf with Alice and Harrison, before sending them off to join their lacrosse teams for the week.

Day 1 was a great start to our week in Halifax for Lacrosse Nationals!

Prairie Cup 2026 in Red Deer- An absolutely great weekend with this crew! And driving home with the Bronze medal is pretty sweet too- especially with just under two weeks away from flying to Halifax for Nationals!

Lots of lessons learned and growth as a team, and great momentum going into Nationals! Now to rest up and prepare!!! Let’s go Team Sask!!

One month away till we are back in Halifax for Lacrosse Nationals!
