Our hearts are with everyone affected by these wildfires and the local air quality. We will not be skating today at the Plaza. Please take every precaution to stay safe, and check in on those vulnerable in your community.
If you're looking for someplace cool to spend the evening, we'll still be at The Dive Gastro Pub inc tonight for drink and food specials, live music, and lots of Derby talk! It's the only place in town to buy some Superior Spitfires swag, too!
🚨July 16, 2026, air quality cancellations update:
Due to continued poor air quality conditions caused by wildfire smoke, all City cancellations announced yesterday remain in effect.
⚠️City-operated outdoor pools and splash pads remain closed, and the Downtown Plaza remains closed to the public.
⚠️The Downtown Street Party scheduled for this evening has also been cancelled.
⚠️All outdoor sporting events scheduled at City-operated facilities have been cancelled. This includes any bookings, outdoor City-run programming activities, and games at Elliott Sports Complex, North Street Diamond, Strathclair Park, Queen Elizabeth Sports Complex, and Bellevue Park.
These precautionary measures have been taken to protect the health and safety of residents, participants, volunteers, and staff. Poor air quality can pose health risks, particularly for children, older adults, and individuals with heart or lung conditions.
Limit or reschedule outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise, until air quality improves. Those experiencing symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, or irritation of the eyes or throat should move indoors and seek medical advice from a health care provider if symptoms persist.
