Congratulations to the Dakota Dunes Resort Dakota Dunes Resort , Chief Darcy Bear and the entire Whitecap Dakota First Nation on the successful hosting of the 2026 Notah Begay III Western Canadian Golf Championship Notah Begay III Canadian Junior Golf on August 18 | 19. Over 100 junior golfers from Western Canada and the U.S. competed, with Saskatchewan resident Matty Schmiess capturing the overall title with a 2 day today of 130 (64, 66). Notah Begay III was in attendance, hosting a junior golf clinic and a family meet and greet, along with supporting the competitors throughout the tournament. Participants, families and special guests all enjoyed a spectacular day at day 1 of the Notah Begay III Canadian Junior Golf Western Championship hosted at Dakota Dunes Golf Links Dakota Dunes Resort . Notah Begay Notah proved precisely why he was recently presented the 2026 Payne Stewart Award, an award that recognizes a professional golfer who displays character, sportsmanship and charity. As good as the golf course and competition was today, with Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess carding a 7 under par 64 for the low round of the day, the meet and greet with Begay was equally amazing with all attendees walking away with a signed picture and inspirational messages. Over 100 junior golfers from throughout Canada and as far away as Los Angeles, California are competing this week at the 2026 Notah Begay III Canadian Jr Golf Western Championship Notah Begay III Canadian Junior Golf , hosted at Dakota Dunes Golf Links. Headlining the local competitors are Saskatchewan’s provincial amateur champions Grace Odnokon and Austin Nesbitt. With families traveling from all over Canada and North America and staying at the amazing Dakota Dunes Reaort, the event will provide a huge boost to the Whitecap Dakota First Nation economy and inspire more local youth to play the game of golf.

A big week for Saskatchewan’s Junior golfers as Chloe Wills and Letian Liu make the cut at the Golf Canada Canadian Jr Girls Championship, and Ryan Mosher, Austin Nesbitt, Aricin Franklin, Matty Schmiess and Oliver Matyczuk make the cut at the Canadian Jr Boys Championship. Hard work has paid off for these young athletes and they provide inspiration for the entire Saskatchewan golf community. Congratulations to you all for making the cut and to all Saskatchewan competitors on earning their spots to attend the National Championships.
